    Buyback canceled today

Really? That makes sense for the EFT/check choice, but it wouldn't have for the mileage. And it definitely asked for the mileage after the notarized offer was approved, i.e. at the same time as the appt. setup.

    Buyback canceled today

It was explained in a similar thread here that since the assumption they make is of 1042 a month since Sept. 2015 (i.e. calculating 1042 miles per month back from the buyback date to September 2015 to make up the nominal book value), they also calculate, based on the entered current value, the...

Picking buyback appt. date according to mileage bracket/month?

That's unfortunate. So if one is close to a edge of a mileage bracket, a review of the tables and the more up-to-date calculators is in order before committing to an appt. date. But it's good to know they've come out in agreement with the tables so far, and the 1st of the month is indeed the...

Picking buyback appt. date according to mileage bracket/month?

Yes, I've got my offer with the $$ based on the mileage I put in the claim and either the 11/1 estimate from way back when, or maybe their right-about-now estimate (it makes no difference given my mileage). What I'm wondering is whether, at the point on the portal where you update your mileage...

Picking buyback appt. date according to mileage bracket/month?

According to some online calculators and some of the court document addenda, the mileage bracket adjustment to the buyback amount is done strictly by the calendar month. For us, it appears that the buyback amount ticks up by hundreds from January 17 to February 17, if the mileage stays in a...

how is factory rear lip spoiler attached?

I bought the OEM rear lip spoiler for one Passat NMS, and (even though the VW product page said that it comes without any adhesive) it came with double-side tape strips already attached to the surface that touches the trunk lid top (but not the narrower part that touches the vertical back part...

Golf VI 2.5 maintenance findings: gunk on coil packs, grey gas in fuel filter?

I just did more or less the 40k service on our '12 Golf 2.5, and found two odd things. This is the first time I've seen either VW coilpacks or a gas filter up close. When I poured the gas out of the fuel filter that hadn't already spilled out during removal, I found that not only did it come out...

    VW's problem?

Diess also said recently that he couldn't understand why VWs don't have a top-quality reputation in the US. "We've have record-low warranty claims." I guess they don't count the claims that are fobbed off with "they all do that" and "we can't hear/feel anything", and I assume he assumes those...

    Coolant filter

Assuming that my apparently incorrect pH meter calibration (setting it to 7.0 for distilled water, which I'm told may be nearer to 6) doesn't affect relative pH: On our 2012, the factory fill now measured at 1.6 less than fresh 50/50 G13. (7.8 vs. 9.4, on my meter). Incremental partial...

    DSG service and being level

Due to the massive fluid drain, you'd want to remove the overflow pipe with an L-shaped hex key, not your ratchet. Even the moderate drain when you fully remove the drain plug suggests covering your 14mm bit, or at least the ratchet underneath, with a plastic bag.

    Changing Brake Fluid

I saw a Hazet wrench recently that claimed to be able to reach the brake bleeder screw on many VWs and Audis through the wheel spokes, thereby obviating the need for removing the wheels for bleeding. That would be great for replacing the fluid when the rotors and pads are still good, and gave me...

    DSG service and being level

You can actually (just) see the filter without removing the battery tray, but even with the air box moved, it seemed too difficult to a. unscrew b. remove without severe spillage and c. replace without knocking dirt into the fitting, so I gave up and removed everything in the way. A few month...

SOS: cold, stranded, engine shuts off

Only 20? I switch to white PS as soon as the first prediction of low 30s happens. I couldn't tell you when unwinterized Diesel generally starts to gel but this way, I don't have to know, and I don't have to watch the weather closely, or, frankly, think about it. After years without a problem...

Heat Only on Driver Side - clogged heater core

2012 NMS TDI, built 3/12, no heater symptoms as far as we can tell (it gets to the mid-20s here sometimes, so we should notice at least if it was severe). 44k miles and 4 years and this problem seemed enough to start replacing the coolant. So far, I've only done it by disconnecting the upper...

2012 Passat TDI battery replacement procedure

VCDS info says you have to do the steering calibration after a battery disconnect. VW hadn't heard of EEPROMs, apparently. I will bridge it with a plug-in supply, reliably connected perhaps at the fusebox, next time I have to disconnect a VW battery.

    Problem with condensation on windows

Whatever they changed in 2013 or 2014 didn't do a lot to help with the fogging as such, but on my 2014, any use of the windshield washer causes the washer fluid's odor to get in the car to a nauseating level, recirc mode or not. That said, the greasy coating on the windows is still coming back...

Help With Coolant Draining and Flush

For draining, what would happen if you apply suction (e.g. by Mityvac, or, better for catching coolant, by shopvac) to the lower reservoir hose? This obviously wouldn't actually cause a vacuum, but it would pull out old coolant until the stream is interrupted by air whereever you let it in...

How to: Replacing 2012+ NMS Passat heater core

I've been looking around for a how-to on replacing the coolant (for good measure, and to perhaps prevent clogging of the heater core in the first place), or the drain and refill needed before and after the heater core replacement. I saw the term vacuum fill in another post, and searching for...
