Here's my take on how to actually connect up to do the diesel purge in case it's of help to someone in future. If anyone thinks this is wrong, please let me know, but I completed the purge OK yesterday. I managed to break one of the fuel hose clips while refitting the hoses. Fortunately I had...
Helpful, thanks. About to do diesel purge on mine.
@pkhoury…. Keep an eye on that fuel line bottom right of pic. Both our cars have the same melting/chafing of this line. Appears to be a design fault. Garage gave the all clear, but I’ve added some tape to protect (hopefully).
For anyone finding this later.... I used a Laser 7293 terminal removal toolset to remove the terminals from both connectors and swapped the connector housings. Installed and ran fan test from VCDS - tested OK.
I need to replace my left hand (the larger) radiator fan after diagnosing a bad fan control module.
I ordered based on car details and the VW part number as on the fan (1K0959455 DL). The new fan came with a connector to the 2nd fan which is slightly different (see pic - VW left, NRF fan...
Looks like they’ve maybe been painted (badly). The poor finish is all around the edge which is consistent with kerbed wheel cheapo repair.
Caveat: always hard to tell from pics, so I could be wrong. You don’t say if it’s a new car or not. Even new cars however can suffer damage and be repaired...
So.... I had one try resoldering the PIC16 and some of the surrounding components using the tips that came with the new soldering station. Struggled to see what was going on with just a magnifier and also couldn't access some pins due to closeness of components.
Replaced in the car and it...
It's a light in the instruments which lights for a few seconds and then goes off. Looks like this.

Your profile says Golf mkvi. No, it is not normal if yours does not light.
In warmer...
Hi. Yes that will be my next step if I can't fix.
Do you mean the board with Pic16 on? I call that the radio board. Or did you mean the one on the bottom of the unit?
There is a guy with some radio boards for sale here so I can check.
I think if I can't get one here I'll buy a secondhand...
Yes. Both my wife's car and mine have had a rear spring each already. My Golf then had to have both fronts recently. It has 91k miles on.
Although the damage was probably incremental, the last straw was a trip to the border with Wales. The English county on the border has the lowest population...
Thank you. I got my temp controlled soldering station yesterday. Might need to get a microscope of some sort as big magnifying glass doesn't cut it for the really small stuff.
But at the moment I'm struggling even with the through board power supply caps. Struggling to fully melt old solder...
Only recently found this forum. I’ve had a mk6 Golf GTD for 10 years. The longest I’ve ever owned a car as it’s such a good all rounder. Fitted a fairly major project (for me anyway) stereo early on which is another reason why it’s difficult to consider selling. My wife drives a Scirocco...
To OP. Appreciate this is a year old, but I guess others with same fault may read. You didn’t say whether you scanned for codes or checked the glow plugs. Both our TDis did this when one of the glow plugs failed. It shows a code on VCDS however so is quite an easy check.
Hi. Not sure my symptoms are quite the same, but saw reference to PIC16 as cause elsewhere. The screen and sound on mine are flicking on and off (i.e. unit is working, but going on/off constantly even when only displaying the clock).
Mine works for a few minutes and then starts playing up, so...
