2008 emission mods
What exactly will be done to make the engine compliant? Aren't we going to have some exotic hardware like the 2007 3/4-ton trucks? Isn't this the devil you know vs. the devil you don't know? I would NEVER buy a first production year of such a new technology.

Door Noise/Improved electrics?
At the time I owned the car, there were many discussions and remedies posted on this BB. The noise was best described as a creaking that happend most of the time. Interstate speeds (and cranking up the radio) made it less noticible.
Two cures for me were...
I sold my 2001 about 18 months ago. I am thinking about getting a new A4 PD. Other than a few mpg less and a few horsepower more, what should I expect?
I am particularly wondering about timing belt life and intake manifold gunk. Is the PD better on the EGR/intake manifold or about the same...
Well, they replaced the oil line and the engine sounds like it always has. I am going to watch for the metal flakes in the oil and stay close to home for a while. It's pretty amazing that the engine wasn't an immediate basket case.

They build these things literally 2 miles from my house. I, too, would worry about the 6.0L. Ford needs to do something about this engine. I am told that it was a temporary application and they are going to introduce a totally new engine to meet emissions and competition...
I am told that there is very little support for the last section of this line, and fatigue was the probable cause.
Additional question: Would there have been any reason to disturb this line doing an intake manifold cleaning procedure? That was done within 5,500 miles.
Thanks for referring me...
The oil light came on in a very wild part of New Mexico last night. I could not get pulled over for several miles due to no shoulder. I hoped I might see something that looked like a ranch but, no. Maybe 5-7 minutes of oil light.
When I finally pulled over, much oil smoke & a dry dipstick were...
I need to know the bolt diameter of the stock steel wheel bolt and thread pitch. Also where is the best place to buy a tap this size? 2001 Jetta TDI, bone stock.
Thanks Herm
I have had exactly the same experiance with the components you listed. Anyone have any idea about the OEM battery? Used to be 2 years was it on the original battery.

I have been meaning to bring this up for a while. Reading the excellent posts on OP's turbo failure made me act.
It seems that many of us drive more than the average number of miles/year. I now have 108k on my 2001 A4 Jetta. Some of you commute; most of my driving is highway and I am often...
Can anyone direct me to a thread that might talk about the changes VW made to the engine in 2004 model cars? I notice that Old Navy's CCV filter will not work on 2004 engines and I was wondering why.

The following items are not working:
Dome light (when driver's door is opened; works manually & from other doors.
Key left in lock warning.
Headlight on warning.
There are other mysterious things like the doors will relock after a certain interval if you are sitting in the car.
This would seem...
I was confronted with this problem last month. If you will check my past posts in the last 30-45 days, one of the members who is/was in the wholesale import parts business recommended several shops in Denver. I'm sure he can do the same for you for the Springs.
I bought my complete 80k timing...
Jaydhall came over last week and we used his VAG-COM and found that the MAF on my 2001 w/65k on it is showing its age. I have increasingly noticable flat spots while accelerating. The VAG-COM graph shows a definite drop off near peak RPM.
My question is this: Do you think it is worth the...
I am taping both sides of the striker and applying lube to the plastic latch mechanism. 6 months ago JSG listed several possible cures.
A search on "door creak" will show threads all the way back to 2000, including various theories on where the noise is coming from.
Since there havn't been any...
There haven't been any postings on the door creak for over 6 months. Mine now seem particularly bad. I have tried:
Teflon tape-NG
Electrical tape-worked for a while.
Telon-based grease-$12 a tube used by military for automatic weapons; NG
I did NOT remove all the tape before I tried the...
I wonder why no one has replied to this question? I am going to order my own VAG-COM early next week and intend to do the ERG procedure.
Volvopunk's question raises the possibility that the "fix" may not work, at least in some circumstances.

Just had my 60k belt change, and the independent shop suggested that the large idler be replaced. He says VW recommends it, but I've never seen anybody mention idlers with TB replacements. He said a "perfect" job would be to replace the two smaller idlers as well.
I tried to see if the TB...
Just got back form picking up the car after the 60k maintenance.
1) Removed EGR and noted some deposits, but certainly not bad enough to remove manifold. (I am told, did not see).
2) Shop is a certified emission repair center and declined to reprogram computer per the EGR procedure.
3) Did...
