    Amsoil 5W-40 Now Reformulater

Thanks for the info SUNRG. I also reviewed data in some of your other posts and it showed that other 501.01 oils have lower TBN's as well. That led me to start thinking (as you stated above) that perhaps TBN's of 12+ in passenger/light truck vehicles is overkill.

    Amsoil 5W-40 Now Reformulater

I have a question regarding the reformulated version of Amsoil 5w-40 European. I noticed that the TBN of the reformulated version is "8" (per specifications on Amsoil's website). The previous version had a TBN of around "12" (similar to Mobil 1 Truck & SUV) Does anyone have a concern about...

Despite car show hype, hybrids, diesels will remain marginal

I am more convinced than ever this will never happen.

VOLKSWAGEN to retire Pumpe-Duese Technology (2007)

MB is claiming ,at the same auto show, that they have the technology to meet these new regulations. It may make sense to you, but not to me. To me this is simply "business as usual" fom VW. I'm getting more and more disappointed with VW.

Nissan, Honda, DCX intend to release US diesels

This is great news!!! In the meantime, at VW, no Passat TDI for 2007. If Jeep comes out with a 2007 Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD, it could be bye bye Jetta for me! :p

    Bored with Volkswagen

This is it, in a nutshell, concerning VW. My Jetta, so far, has been a great vehicle. It's affordable, gets great mileage, and isn't too hard to maintain. I think they build a pretty good diesel vehicle...but that's on again, off again, with VW (partly because of things beyond VW's control)...

    Advice on extended warranty

If you haven't had too many issues with your Golf I wouldn't consider an extended warranty. They're generally not worth it; you'll spend more on the warranty price than you would paying for whatever repairs pop up that would be covered under the warranty. Having said that, I purchased a...

help! landlord wants to 'evict' my tdi!

Yeah but it's gonna set off the smoke detectors. I'd try using Amoco premier diesel...it's about the same price as the other stuff if you look around. BP Amoco at Hwy 45 & Hampton is currently a rip off at $2.89/gal; try other locations.

VOLKSWAGEN to retire Pumpe-Duese Technology (2007)

Thanks for the article. My bubble didn't burst much since it was only half inflated. I guess I'm learning not to count on VW too much regarding the future of diesel power in passenger automobiles...if there is a future. Diesel's banned in Wisconsin? Were did that come from?

    Jeep Liberty CRD mileage report

How many miles per year are you putting on your Liberty? How do you like the overall performance of a diesel engine in your liberty? I'm asking because we are considering one. Thanks.

    Bad luck with BP???

I don't believe the folks in the NC area get Amoco Premier Diesel (premium diesel). Sounds like it's regular rotgut #2. Find a station that dispenses ALOT of diesel, try it, and if you get good results, try to stick with the location. Also, can you opt for bio-diesel? During my TDI...

    Sudden MPG Drop (Winter?)

    Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

FYI regarding Cooper tires; I put Cooper lifeliners (91H) on my Jetta and immediately noticed a 1-2 mpg hit. The tires are fine in all other respects and are etimated (based on current treadwear) to last 60-70k. I will probably go with TT's for my next set.

FAO: TDI PD owners @ 100K miles or more

If I drove only 12,000 miles per year I don't think I'd own a TDI. Don't get me wrong; my TDI is/has served me well and has been reliable (knock on wood). But as TornadoRed stated, at 12,000 miles per year fuel costs are less of a factor than when you drive two or three times that per year...

    Hang on to your wallets!

Hopefully it won't happen but the silver lining would be that it would serve to further justify increased bio-diesel production.

When will diesel prices come down?

This morning: RUL $2.299 per gal Diesel $2.699 per gal. Both are dropping although the price spread has narrowed. Diesel is ranging $.30 per gallon depending on where you choose to fill up. My guess is that gas has about "bottomed out" in the short term. Diesel will continue it's downward...
