Back in 2013 I did an auto to 6speed swap in my mK4 Jetta. i think an 02M but could get the part number if someone can tell me where that is.
Several years on the starter quit and having a baby I had a mechanic do the work but forgot to tell him I had a 6 speed so he tried a stock reman starter...
Hah, So a few years later facing more auto projects I also picked up a Milwaukee Fuel 18v and concur that it has some serious power. Adding the impact is much more gentle to the fasteners as well.
looks like I am now a victim of these leaks at 217K miles. Tip. I added some fluorescent dye to the coolant bottle and ran the motor a bit. This pointed to the flange when I used the UV light at night to see where things lit up. The leak was much more present when the system was running and...
VAG come showed no DTCs but registered 0 for the speed.
I'm having a devil of a time finding the sensor. I think I have an 02M trans. I'll look for the marking tomorrow. Most of the posts show the sensor above the left axle under the trans mount but they are five speeds. Poking around I can...
I have a VAG com so I'll investigate further. It looks like the speedo only. I haven't checked yet if the OD is advancing.
I'm going to speculate that the sensor has a stamped part number so that might serve as well.
Happened today. With 217K miles the gremlins are creeping in.
I plan to start by replacing the VSS on the transmission but I swapped in a 6 speed years ago when my auto started to bite the dust.
Can someone tell me if these sensors are generic for the MKIV vehicles? If not I need to find a...
Fixed. I just grabbed two new front sensors. The job is as simple as unplugging the harness, removing the allen screw and pulling the old sensor towards the center of the car out of the hub.....unless you live in NE. In my case I had to remove the calipers and rotor and then smash the old...
Thanks guys. Hoping it was something simple like that. NE is rough on electrics so I'll log with my VAGCOM and then see which circuit is at fault. Might even be a loose connector.
Its a 2001 Jetta with 215K miles...so its getting up there but still going strong.
The new behavior is under full braking at low speeds the ABS comes on in normal conditions when there is plenty of traction.
It happens at low speed only
Usually when the pedal is sustained (pumping can avoid...
I'm about to replace my MC. Its a 2001 Jetta with 215K miles. One day it was fine and the next very little braking force. I can build pressure by pumping it but it is not safe in an emergency situation. I managed to get home using engine braking and pumping the pedal.
I'll check the VAC line...
Wanted to post back that the hum was in fact from the tires. I swapped on my summer tires after I did the bearing job and attributed the sound to the wrong thing. The tires were worn and would have failed inspection so they were replaced. Hum is gone and no bearing noise so great news there.
I got this bearing kit off Amazon for $66. It did the trick and seemed as sturdy as any of them:
TMS Bearing Puller
I also recommend a stout pair of inner snap ring pliers. I was able to insert mine by compressing them in a vice and wiring the two open ends to each other. I could then...
I'll re-torque the main nuts tonight and try that before redoing the job.
I didn't mean to suggest the article was wrong but if it doesn't matter if both sides can be done together or in sequence with the same results its good to know and its now stated in the thread.
I only used an impact...
OK. Did it this weekend. What a chore. I had some issues pulling the passenger side hub and ended up making a brace that I could slide through the hub and rest against the chassis to push on. This did the trick. Pushing on the axle did not work as it kept moving. One note. Today I hear a...
It could be a backing plate so I'll push that back or jack up and slowly spin the wheel to see. The sound is definitely speed related and a scraping sound. Lots of wear left on the pads and rotor and no pulsing when I brake. I tried rocking the wheel to see if there is play but the car was...
Hoping for some opinions from the good people here.
Car has 207K miles and had a 6 speed swapped in at 180K
I recently started getting some noise from the front that is clearly coming from the brake rotor. Scrape scrape scrape. I checked the pads and rotor and they have tons of life left in...
Fixed. The window motor was the ticket. I didn't realize there was a control module in there. So glad to have the new paint and working windows! This site has been key to keeping this car going. Thanks all!
