Thanks to scurvy and everyone else here! This solved the noise problem I was having for many, many months, and I wouldn't have attempting this repair without this great information.
Did the driver side front bearing today following the instructions. Had the classic symptom of ‘when driving...
Looks like you are near Frederick, MD. I had my timing belt done by car 54 (matt) who is in Woodbridge, VA (probably less than a 1.5 hour drive for you). I bought the full kit from dieselgeek and took the car to him. Excellent job, highly recommended, less $$$ than a dealer and he really...
5 years. Replaced the OEM with the Autozone Duralast 94R, which was a perfect fit.
Pretty easy to tell by cranking speed when the battery is about to go .....
My driver's side window fell into the door this morning (2000 Jetta TDI). I tried to lower it yesterday, and it was stuck shut (probably a little ice). Heard the motor whine and shut off, but the window didn't lower. This morning, the window simply dropped into the door without any resistance...
Check that the window clips have been replaced with the metal clad ones - when the plastic ones break, the window falls into the door. If they haven't, I think they are 'covered' for 7 years.
Check that the brake light switch has been replaced per the recall.
Relay 109 was problematic for...

I got the radio out by using a different home made tool than others. I took the metal support out from a pendaflex hanging folder and used the ends to push into the removal slots. I couldn't remove it with the cut up credit card "tool" - the card pieces flexed too much .
I replaced mine (2000 Jetta) without removing the door panel. I pried it out carefully with a thin flat blade screwdriver while pushing the switch body around to help release the snap. It is a little risky, though, because if you damage the portion of the door panel the switch fits into, it...
It is probably fine. The LED for the rear fogs isn't installed in the switch - there is an icon in the cluster that (may) light up when the rear fogs are switch on.

I have decided to give the local shop the work since their labor price seems reasonable. One reason is the length of time it will take to install "on my...
Redtdi: The $350 is labor only (I have all the parts, including the bolts). The local shop said it is about a 4 hour job for them, and they have done lots of late model Jettas. The dealer quoted the job at 8 hours (at $70/hour). Thx for the info from the web page.
HermTDI: Will do.
