There were some failed/cracked hoses but he also noticed the routing was all weird. I was tracing it using the PDF's on here and also noticed that T's were in weird places and the routing didn't match the diagram.
Good call on the nipple. Is that done always with removal of the pump or while...
Ha! I do way too much in-town driving. Funny thing, after driving it around with no boost for a bit, when I pulled out of the shop driveway and put the pedal to the floor...huge cloud of soot...since then a few more clean-outs and now normal operation. We'll see how MPG's come up.
thanks again!
update: vacuum lines were routed very strangely (I had noticed that too and was part of the reason I stopped). He also found another leak. Car is fixed and running great. Actually, seems to run better / boost better than before. Perhaps I had a slow leak I didn't notice...
Thanks, everybody...
Thank you, everybody. I don't want to be that jerk customer telling the tech what is up, so I will tread lightly. I won't be paying them to do the turbo anyway, so if that's his conclusion, I'll just take the car back. If I fix it some other way, I have a nice relationship with he front guy and...
This has been related to a previous thread re: no power/boost and firm brake pedal. I replaced the brake booster hose and no change. Still no boost but also no codes, if that matters. I was fed up with messing with it so send to local shop with good rep. Tech I've spoken to loves MK4's...
I ended up taking the car in for something else and asked them to diagnose the vacuum system. Smoke test showed 2 spots of leak. Hoses replaced, but still no boost. Tech thinks maybe turbo, but wants to test more tomorrow to be sure before making such a recommendation. Said putting the gauge on...
2003 Wagon. 308k.
Brake pedal gets stiff if you do 2 successive firm pedal applications. I assume that's because it's using up all the available vacuum. Car has no boost.
I started chasing down this problem with replacing the booster to pump plastic hose and didn't help. In doing so, I saw...
I did some searching and came up empty….if one were to be somewhat preemptive on the alh wagon and maybe check/replace some stuff to reduce any distance trip anxiety, where would one focus?
Hey Folks!
Thank you so much to those providing feedback and things to think about.
OH: You really summarize it well in that I'm trying to find something that can do it all, and that really isn't a thing. At the core, I'm (too) frugal and have a really hard time with the idea of dropping $40k...
I don't know if you meant to, but there is some gaslighting happening there. We went across an intersection and dude came through it at night doing 40 and almost killed us. There was no way to avoid it. I guarantee that EV would have done better in that wreck than a 21 year old car.
That being...
308k miles. Too many little things. Recently, boost gone and then wife had brake pedal go stiff on her. Need to find the time to get into that vacuum leak. Also bad to do strut mounts recently. Have a noisy bearing, etc. new tranny last year. lots of stuff happening at once. Love the car, but...
Yes, I think that’s just the Taos which is likely too small (?). Interestingly, in what I assume is dealer specific, this one is saying lifetime warranty on the power train. They speaks volumes on the confidence of that motor, I suppose.
Well, the time has come to upgrade the wagon. Too unreliable and my wife won't drive it out of town anymore. Can't say I blame her. She wants a more modern care with more safety features, etc. Also, to be honest, I'm kind of getting on the other side of wanting to maintain an old car.
We are a...
Well, looks like the transmission blew in my 03 Wagon. I'm thinking of getting an EV and be done with my TDI life, but in the event somebody has something they want to get rid of, maybe get her back on the road once again.
Anybody?
matt
well, they said "everything looked fine" and then in the parking lot /test drive, it started doing what it was doing to me: in gear and not moving. Now, they said it won't come out of gear.
I have no idea WTH is going on. What they heck did they do to my car???? I asked if they had pulled the...
Ya, with the certainty of P2B's initial statement, the shop's initial wondering what is up is concerning. I wasn't talking to the actual tech, so hopefully there was a communication breakdown.
I am remembering one thing he said in the phone call was he asked if I had spilled a bunch of fluid...
Ok, thank you. So, is there any way anything they did in replacing the O-rings which come in and out of the heater core could have possibly messed up the slave cylinder? Like anything they had to move around could have caused the slave to fail? thing was totally fine when I dropped it off.
Well, got it to the shop today. They ere expecting to have something disconnected to just put back together or something but they dont' see anything. They said a bunch of brake fluid came out of the bell housing, but everything is filled back up and fine now. They can't find the source of the...
