I feel like a fool for posting this question, but as far as turbos go I have just been a parts changer.
I put a 17/22 with supposedly around 40,000 miles on my wagon 5 years and 20,000 miles ago, purchased from classifieds here. I can't believe it was that long ago but time flies I guess. Has...
found this thread looking for coolant hose info (fuel contamination brought on a leak at the hard pipe to block under the fuel pump, and the hose from there to expansion tank is splitting; this particular 2000 model year patient has had another hose replaced for swelling a few months ago as...
I was hoping a search could prevent me from posting a possible teaser thread, but it looks like almost all Allroad swaps posted here are BHW. I have several ALH to choose from and that's my preference.
I've got a 6MT 2.7T Allroad in decent shape with lots of powertrain issues. It needs a...
Once I got the air out, it started easily with the terrible IQ and had a TERRIBLE idle. As soon as it had any load or was off idle it ran great. That's all the hammer mod fixed.
So no cookie this time.
Buuuuuut if the IQ was closer to spec - would it have started without so much fighting and...
I had to hammer the pump head back towards the timing belt quite a ways. I did it live while watching vag-com so I don't have a distance measure on it but it was at least half a dozen light taps. at least 12 thou, probably more like 20.
timing is just barely under the yellow line, very easy start.
appears that this was an extremely stubborn bleed for some reason.
I got frustrated enough with it that I threw starting fluid at it (glowplugs disconnected) and it fired. There were a few cans of starting fluid in the trunk, so I'm not going to think I did anything worse to it than what an...
I’m getting some fuel spray out of 2 & 4, 1 & 3 don’t seem to want to pop off.
It didn’t fire up on 2, I’ll pull the GPs again and fiddle more later.
I took some videos of the cranking. I’ll crop and share.
I’ve changed a lot of diesel fuel system parts on TDIs and Cummins dodges, and have...
Bottom line:
new Polish reman IP on an ALH. Appears well-bled, but no smoke of any sort and no attempts to fire at all after a LOT of cranking. No codes set during cranking.
I bought a project ALH automatic Jetta with 155k on it, known not running. Have dealership (oye!) paperwork from 2 months...
Bump for you for parts available - I have a '99 5 speed 2.0 shell that's going to scrap soon. I don't know if 2.0/TDI power steering pumps interchange, but it's a complete 5 speed swap (though geared wrong - or "sporty" if you prefer :) ).
GLWS, hope someone can save it.
I ran big tires for max clearance and the fact that I like a chunky look. Not the wrong solution to either of those problems.
My early efforts on my first mk4 came from heinously cheap excellent condition snow tires. Also a great reason.
In between that first mk4 and my latest crop I ran an...
Would an inch of lift help them fit? Probably not, right? How about a big hammer?
I don’t have any front wheel liners in the new wagon, I was thinking of seeing how big I could go. I think I like the idea of a chunky wagon.
If something is stretching/ yielding would typically be the shaft of the fastener, not the threads. It seems unlikely to me that 76 inch-pounds could be permanently deforming anything. VW loves to indicate fastener replacement so I can’t say I’m surprised but I wouldn’t worry too much about the...
Since this was a Top Google result, I will add that my results on a two hole head gasket with new bolts just now was that final torque value was 106 foot pounds
17/22 is on the way, could use some extra fuel to balance the air. Figured I’d ask before I hit eBay it go retail. If there are any listed that aren’t marked sold, I missed them.
I have one just removed from a broken timing belt. Visually appears to have 1 bent valve, and be very clean, all but #3 held compression and the visibly bent valve is #3 intake. Needs all lifters, they’re all worn and some are crushed. 205k assuming it’s original to the car.
I’m in Rochester...
