Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

If the mechanic at the dealer couldn’t find the turbo’s problem, how is an amateur like me supposed to do it? It’s not realistic. So I’ll just sell my other car that works & get 5-6000 dollars for it. Thank you.

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Yes a car is just an appliance to me, but I thought maybe it would be worth 3-4000 for someone else. But I was wrong. Oh well. Maybe I can sell my 7000 mile Chevrolet Cavalier instead for 6 grand (according to truecar)

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Or drive my Chevy or Honda instead. The Beetle has broken A/C, damaged left headlight, broken cup holder, broken glove box, and so on. But my other cars are flawless. Beetles and cars are just appliances like TVs and refrigerators. Use them til they permanently break; throw them away...

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Well three thoughts: (1) When the Dealer messed with the turbo, the car started eating its own oil: 1 quart per 200 miles. It eventually stopped & I don’t want it to start eating oil again (if another mechanic touches the turbo). The engine has stabilized. (2) THE CAR RUNS. It’s only ~40...

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Dealer mechanic already inspected the turbo, but could not find anything wrong. He said it should be working.

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Dealer mechanic couldn’t find anything wrong. I like your advice. Only problem with keeping the Beetle is ~300 dollars insurance & registration costs (due now). That’s a major cost when income is zero. I suppose I could return the plates to the DMV & eliminate the bill completely. Just let...

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Alnost every car you listed fails to move, so of course you got them for $0 My car still runs (just driven thousands of miles crosscountry), so it has to be worth more than the non-moving cars you listed.

Value 2005 70K Beetle: broken turbo?

Due to unemployment I find myself short of cash. In a private sale, how much is this 70,000 mile Manual Beetle TDI worth? The air conditioning doesn’t work (just outside air). The turbo stopped working ~20,000 miles ago, but the car still runs surprisingly well (not eating any oil or...

ALH Turbo Delete: Daily Driving a Naturally Aspirated 2001 Golf

30 hp? If the turbo generated a boost of 2 atmospheres, then no turbo would basically cut your power in half: 100hp / 2 == 50 hp

Need a Skilled TDI mechanic SANTA ANA CA

VW dealer wants $3000 which is nuts. No car is worth investing that much (especially at 15 years old).

Has cop ever checked your fuel line...?

So the overall answer appears to be “no”. Cops might check trucks at farmers’ livestock shows, but other wise no.

Will 75W-90 work in 2010+ VW manual shift?

I already have the bottle on hand. I don’t want to just throw it away. Although I guess I could use it in my Honda instead. BTW where did you get 80,000 to drain/replace gear oil? The 2005 manual doesn’t list that maintenance interval (or Any interval).

California Cetane is 53 minimum (and 48 Texas)

Yes and the website says the closest 76 station with RD is over 300 miles north of L.A. which is quite a trip. Maybe it costs too much to ship the vegetable/animal diesel to Socal, so it’s only sold at/near the farmland (where it’s sourced)

Has cop ever checked your fuel line...?

The new Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) cars also make a clatter noise. It’s funny because diesels like Chevy Cruze Gen2 have become quiet, where you can barely hear them, but gassers have become noiser. I guess it’s a side effect of adopting diesel common rail injectors to gasoline application.

Police dipping tanks? Interesting. I thought diesel cars had a “sight glass” to see the colored fuel. Quick and easy. I am using taxed diesel from the pumps. Never used offroad diesel or gasoline my whole life. Maybe you shouldn’t jump to false conclusions, when there’s no evidence.

California Cetane is 53 minimum (and 48 Texas)

76’s renewable diesel is made from vegetable oils, so naturally it has less energy content (just as ethanol has less energy than pure gasoline). Unfortunately no 76s in Southern California sell this biodiesel. I would have to drive 370 miles to Sacramento to visit the nearest station, and...
