Passat NMS VCDS Tricks / Upgrades

Be patient or you can use the keyfob and hold lock while walking away, but watch to make sure everything closes.

    ceramic pro anyone else?

Cost ? There are quite a few coatings that are quite good. How long the last vs cost is where it counts. Topcoat F11 seems promising too from what I've seen. Oh and no picture ? :D

    Tdi regen complaint

I hated interrupting a regen, but found they'd come on at the worst times. Shutting down while turbo, egt' s etc are hot is not good, but the high end synthetics can handle it. I still tried to idle down or wait it out. If you don't like it, go gas. It's only a matter of time before they get...

    EPA mpg rating after fix

Well if the sticker (smaller) from EPA differs from EPA's website I would contact them. Unless members here work for EPA. Doesn't sound like it's VW or dealers fault. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

    EPA mpg rating after fix

Why would you be shocked ? Or even surprised ? VW's cheat was huge, it took time, but now you're able to buy a new 2015 with some software alteration and you expected little to no change from before ? Why would VW go thru the hassle to do all of this if it had no change to performance or MPG ?

TURBO: Please report NMS turbo failures here. [not a discussion thread!]

It's needed less with today's Quality Synthetic oils. Less likely to coke, but I still did it each and every time prior to shutting down my TDI in the 58,500 miles I had it. Was around big rigs as a kid, I knew many who did it out of necessity for their Turbo and it still made some sense today...

If you are considering buyback which cars are you looking at as replacements?

If you truly get the mileage stated on your profile to the left and need that mileage range to survive, try the fix. Although, expect that to come down. My best mileage was 50+ and it was rare and on long(2hr) trips to NJ(mostly flat), otherwise I got mid to high 40's. I felt like my fuel...

Calculate the higher cost of TDI/DSG, maintenance and fuel into that comparison

Stick with 235/45/18 or go to 225/50/18? H or V rated?

This winter was relatively light prior to this one storm. March brought more winter this year than Jan or Feb. That is, unfortunately, how it is here. :( I'd say the Michelin is better all around tire. Quiet, balances easy etc.

2015 NMS opinions on fix or sell?

My commute went from 70 miles a day to less than 11. In fact if we move soon that could go down. I'll buy a moped :D I wanted to keep the car I loved, but had damage from 2 bad winters and bridge construction on my former commute. My windshield was pitted. Plus a lady backed into me and I...

Stick with 235/45/18 or go to 225/50/18? H or V rated?

I know this thread is a few years old, but the info is helpful. So I'll add I went to have Snow tires I purchased for $143 per tire mounted at a local shop. I got these Blizzak WS80 tires in that size for the year end price. Normally these tires go for $200+ for sizes in the 18in category. The...

    Frostheater Question

I've said it many times, the Frost heater was the best thing I did to my Passat. Started with the temperature at full temp (no glow plug cycle) and cranked like you've been driving. Once started the temp would fall slightly but climb as you drive. If blocked in all night, even when real cold...

If you are considering buyback which cars are you looking at as replacements?

Yes she got it covered under warranty. But, it was a frustrating, lengthy fight. Documenting trips to dealer for top offs (she is a 50yr old woman after all)and being told it's within spec, blah blah blah. We told her to keep her receipts and to top it off herself as the time and miles to a...

If you are considering buyback which cars are you looking at as replacements?

FYI, I've known a few people with oil use problems on some Subarus. My co-worker had to get a short block rebuild because hers was so bad. 1qt every fill up. Not saying anything bad, just pointing out that this issue does exist out there. Otherwise good cars.

If you are considering buyback which cars are you looking at as replacements?

Keep in mind these cars are not use to the driver (DSG if it learns anything) and the motors aren't fully seated yet. More miles could improve this. I test drove the Alltrack and felt it was pretty neat. If I needed a wagon I certainly would have considered it. Though SEL it and the price...
