    Coolant Leak; mk4 ALH

If the coolant is leaking out of the bottom of the overflow tank, it's probably due to the system overpressurizing, as that's where the pressure release is. The problem is... if your coolant system is overpressurized and you're not overheating, it's probably a bad head gasket. Combustion gases...

Power mirrors non-op on mk5 GLI

Hey everyone! So, I recently sold my mk4 TDI... but I did but a 2007 Jetta GLI Fahrenheit! It's great so far, but I'm having one problem. The power mirrors don't work. The control lights up like it's supposed to and seems to move properly, but the mirrors don't even attempt to move. So I...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

I have a new sensor to try this afternoon. I guess I'll take a baseline reading with VCDS on the old sensor, plug in the new one, and see if it matches more closely the actual ambient temperature. What worries me is that the fuel temp and coolant temp seemed to be linked. Not sure if that is...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

So this morning the car didn't want to start because... surprise! The glow plugs wouldn't come on. At first I thought "crap, obviously if other things are breaking, I must have an overarching electrical problem here", but then I remembered that the glow plugs don't come on if it's above...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

Engine code: 17663 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62) P1255 - 35-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent Is this indicative of a bad sensor, or something wonky with the wiring or ground? If a weird ground or wiring "fried" this one, I'd hate to put in a $35 VW one only to have it...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

Alright, I took the car out again. Drove it for around 15 minutes. It was reading hot again. VCDS read 27C or 27.9C for the coolant temp AND THE FUEL TEMP. Later, it read 30C or 30.1C for BOTH. Intake air temp is accurate. Checked actual coolant temp in overflow tank... 150F. Seems that it's...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

The temp sensor is aftermarket and wiggled out because of the crappy aftermarket clip. Replaced it with a beefier OEM clip. Will definitely see what VCDS says next time I drive it. I know on my VR6 it had multiple coolant temp sensors but I didn't think the ALH is the same. I have plenty of...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

Well, I never had a problem with cabin heat during any of this - I was thinking maybe I wouldn't have noticed if it was just "warm", but I'm pretty sure it's fine. That combined with the fact that I get coolant returning to the tank lead me to believe that the pump is fine. I do have VCDS - but...

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

Okay I so I just went out and checked that - the car is still warm from driving earlier. Got a very steady stream of coolant coming back into the expansion tank. I'm assuming it doesn't make sense for the water pump to be working intermittently? Should I just go ahead and replace the temp...

Great, I will check this ASAP. I feel like I don't remember seeing this.

Should I bet getting coolant circulating into the bottle even if the engine is cold?

No, I didn't put anything like that in it. Antifreeze looks good.

ALH Overheating; replaced thermostat. Still overheating.

Hi everyone! So a while back I replaced the clip holding my coolant temp sensor in, cause it was a little sideways and leaking. Replaced that and it passed a pressure test without leaks. Then I went on a trip that was around 100 miles each way - just as I got near the destination, I noticed...

What else do I need to install fog lights in a mk4 jetta

You don't NEED a euroswitch - they of course made NA cars with fogs. But you will need a headlight switch with fogs. Beyond that, the easiest way would be to buy a pre-made wiring harness with relay, fuse, etc all ready to go - but it's as simple as rigging it all up to the +12v fog pin on the...

    Strange problems... ignition switch?

I rinsed the battery corrosion cleaner off of the grounds under the battery. Hardly an electrical connection - they're all grounds and exposed to the elements. There aren't any hot connections down there.

    Strange problems... ignition switch?

One more update: I definitely think that rinsing off all the grounds I cleaned resulted in getting something that shouldn't have been wet getting wet - I went to a midnight movie and the whole way I was driving there I had no fuel level, no coolant temp, low coolant level, and low washer fluid...

    Strange problems... ignition switch?

Okay, update: the gauge cluster lighting and running lights/tail lights is the headlight switch's problem. However, after removing the battery and battery tray and taking apart, cleaning, and putting back together the grounds, and putting everything back together on top of it *and rinsing all...

    Strange problems... ignition switch?

Okay, thanks guys. I will check that ground first. Edit: Just started it up to put it in the garage to defrost before I work on it, and when I pulled the key out, the radio and everything turned off correctly as it should! Ugh! Hopefully that means it's a only ground issue.

    Strange problems... ignition switch?

Hey everyone! So starting about a month ago, I had a problem whereby when I was starting my TDI, I would turn the headlights on, and although my interior lights would come on, the gauge cluster lights and running lights (tail lights) would not. After a few seconds, they would come on. Lately...
