Is it just me or does this DEF stuff sound expensive and easy to contaminate?

Local Dealer Prices Vs. Online Genuine VW Parts

Only thing I purchased from my local dealer was a battery and it seemed accurately priced with the other part stores batteries. other than that, though, everything else is really pricey. They charge $30-40 for air filters.

    Die Hard Gold batteries?

I agree. They tried to sell me the wrong battery for my car at first and then gave me the one for the diesel instead. I have a semi-intelligent parts guy at the local VW dealer, so I can occasionally get what I need if I can't wait to order it from a vendor. I will also say that there...

    Help

Most likely, you have a dirty sensor but it could be something more significant. I would see if you can get in touch with someone that has VCDS to check what the ABS error is.

To replace or cap - EGR

Interesting.... The situation I'm at right now is do I really want to pay a significant amount of money for a replacement EGR when it really isn't doing much at all (since the cycle is turned down as far as it will go).

To replace or cap - EGR

No emissions here in KCMO. I might just cap it and remap. I see that there is a kit sold from some of the vendors. My assumption with the kit is that I just remove the components and cap all of the holes accordingly? As far as the remapping is concerned, can anyone with VCDS do this or do I...

To replace or cap - EGR

Looks like we are split down the middle on the issue.

To replace or cap - EGR

Yeah, that's what I'm leaning on. It seems like a lot less difficulty than dealing with my cranky ECU and an EGR block I'm gonig to try to see if I can find one that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

To replace or cap - EGR

Honestly, I'd rather replace it than block it but I suppose I would like to explore my options. My EGR has decided that it is time to leak. Not just a little either, it is spraying out a pretty good amount of junk out of the little hole on the front. So, time to replace it or block it off I...

:D technically that is 8 turbos but you get the idea.

    Alternator

Yup, because otherwise it has about a 75% chance of taking the serp tensioner out with it when it does give out. Unfortunately, my alt pulley didn't even make it to 100k (along with my belt tensioner).

    Alternator

My vote is replace the clutched alt pulley and keep on motoring.

    looking for advice

The emissions thing won't be an issue stock. If you start doing mods I'm not too sure about all of that. You will want to stay away from any powertrain mods during the warranty period unless you don't plan on using the warranty.

FS: 2004 Volkswagen Passat Sedan - 103k miles - Jacksonville, Florida

Is it to be assumed that the timing belt condition is unknown/never changed? Also, I'm assuming we are also assuming that there hasn't been any BSM work as well.

    FS/FT: 2001 Jetta TDI Automatic 108K $7.5K Kansas City

This is true but you have that fun transmission that isn't exactly popular on this forum. I'm just putting that out there. I think your car looks great but I'm looking for a wagen. GLWS!

2003 Beetle GLS TDI 5sp (Tentative)

The time has come and I am in need of a little bigger car. I'm starting my search for a Jetta wagon as I travel a lot these days and take my Great Dane with me. Therefore, the Beetle isn't big enough for the 145lb dog and luggage for week long trips. I will have pictures up soon (within the...

    Newbie here

From what I know, this is more or less still applicable. Perhaps not that long of a period but it wouldn't be a bad idea. It takes a long time to break in a diesel. You definitely need to make sure that it sees a lot of variation on the RPM range for awhile in the beginning. I'm not saying...
