    Newb here. I'm a long-time BMW owner (20+ cars over 20+ years) and have done all repairs and maintenance on my own. My only VW-family experience consists of brief dances with a $150 '88 Golf and a '97 A4 1.8TQMS. Didn't have any real trouble with either, but they weren't enough to break me...
