Had similar problem with my 2002 Jetta Auto TDI. Thought it was bad injectors and replaced them still smoked. Disconnected MAF no smoke. Replaced MAF problem solved.

Checked fuse for highbeam and it was burnt. Thanks again JB05.

I had the same problem on a different car. It turned out to be a cd left in drained the battery. If you've left a cd in try removing.

I've got the same on my 2002 Jetta. It's in the shop now trying to figure it out. They are aware of the TCM and speed sensor. I will let you know the outcome.

This is a long shot, but try unpluging the MAF sensor and start your engine. If it cranks replace the MAF.
