I'm trying to finish installing a 2014 CJAA engine into my 2010 JSW. As I'm attaching the many electrical connections and hoses on thge new engine, I get to the exhaust pressure sensor, and I notice it has 2 hoses coming into it, but the sensor only has one barbed fitting. A closer inspection...
Don’t know why I didn’t think of that, I saw the same thing on an old dodge pickup a few years back, and It would certainly explain the symptoms I’m seeing. Think I’ll order a pump and get it changed. I’m tired of having sore arms from driving it without power steering.
I have an 03 Jetta Tdi wagon with around 350k miles. For the last 4 years or so, my steering rack has been leaking fluid at a considerable rate. I found that I could fill up the reservoir, and have perfectly operational power steering for the 2-3 days until all the fluid leaked out of the...
I’ve read that hpfp failures are far less common on CRUA’s than CJAA’s. I think I’ll keep driving mine until I see signs of failure, then do the CP3 retrofit.
I currently own both a 2003 ALH 5 spd wagon (330k) and a 2015 CRUA DSG wagon (255k). While the 2003 is a great car for its time, IMHO it can’t hold a candle to the quality and refinement of the 2015. But, there are a couple of drawbacks to the 2015:
1. DPF and DEF fluid, a minor annoyance, but...
I clicked on the link that oilhammer provided and found this overview from continental:
CONTI® BELT IN OIL (BIO)
Up to 30% less frictional loss results in reduced CO₂ emissions
Innovative oval sprocket technology allows for a 30% reduction in timing belt width
More flexibility in drive...
Riflesmith, did you have to get the oil pump belt from the dealer? I’m not finding it on the usual VW aftermarket parts suppliers. BTW, I too want to get 500k or more from my CRUA GSW.
Great information riflesmith and oilhammer. My 2015 sportwagon has 250k and is now overdue for its second timing belt. Sounds like it’s a pretty good idea to replace the oil pump belt as well since it’s a known design flaw. Do I need to replace the oil pump and belt, or just the belt...
Thanks for your perspective oilhammer, although wife says I have to keep my crua-powered gsw running indefinitely. I’m at 250k with only routine maintenance and dpf replaced under warranty, so I’m feeling pretty lucky, except for the oil consumption. My 2003 Jetta wagon (alh) has 330k miles...
I believe that you made a slight order of magnitude error. The VW normal is oil consumption that you reference is less than 0.5 L/1,000 km not 0.5 L/10,000 km. I’m well under that threshold, so VW warranty was probably never a possibility. I’d still like to do whatever I can to identify the...
No, but I have read about a similar issue on the Gen2 Toyota Prius, and a “ring soak” treatment that has largely solved it without engine disassembly. So, first step is identify which case is the cause of oil consumption, then an appropriate treatment.
My 2015 GSW has consumed about 1qt of oil between 10k oil changes pretty much since new. Now 255k miles on the clock, and it’s using more oil, over two quarts between oil changes. I know this isn’t excessive on a car with this many miles, but i’d really like to identify the cause and cut down...
Oklahoma blueprint, I love it. I have the new engine in, and am in process of hooking everything back up now. Only get to work on it a few hours every weekend, so it’s going a little slow.
