It is what I used to escape (no electricity for 2 wks after Alicia in '83 - no way! I was doing that again).
Aja8888, I'm glad you fared as well as you did. The pictures of Galveston and near my unit up 146 make me cringe.
I just put 832 on 16.04 gal; lots of ac use and some high revving fording some deep water in a recent flood. I think 850 is my best realistic goal without getting a pissed-off-on-the-side-of-the-road face. Then again, maybe my baby will surprise me.
I just travelled 801.1 on 15.3 gallons and my low-fuel chime hadn't gone off yet. I was dying to take it to the edge but the next day's trip to work would take me into higher diesel prices for the fillup. My last 5-6 have been very near 800 on both sides. To achieve this, I've been driving in...
I've got drill (Air National Guard) that weekend or I'd be there with shocks/struts in tow. This is the third GTG drill has bombed. What do they have against TDIs? Have a grand time!
I had two grooves "functioning" on my belt - the rest was in and trailing from the belly pan and wedged between the pulley and the p/s pump (and about 45 minutes of pulling stumps and strands to get it free). I'm glad you caught yours early; any idea what caused yours to fray?
You are wrong;)...
The P/S pump was leaking, dripping from beneath the unit (and it is the same color -yellow/green- as the can I have). I'll get back under there and check the rotative qualities of the pulleys.
RoB is my tech of choice. Making the trip with substandard power steering is the problem. Will I...
Well ... I was finally able to work on the car. I couldn't get the side skirt off so it just got pushed to the side as much as possible. I got the 1/4 inch of belt off and got to work extracting the belt bits wedged between the pulley and the power steering pump. After much tugging and...
Not to my knowledge ... the serp drives the A/C compressor, alternator, power steering, and another unidentified pulley (leftmost p87-27 of service manual).
Last night on the way home from weekend duty, I noticed a flapping noise coming from the front passenger side of the car. After peeking under the hood, I found my serpentine belt had been reduced in size by 2/3 - 3/4 with strands wrapped about the spindle of the uppermost pulley and also...
I'm driving about 70/30 hwy/city though my path to work (Galveston to La Porte) does have near 35 stopping opportunities over the 45 miles one way. I generally range between 46 and 48 mpg with a manual 2001 Golf GLS, with moderate AC use and a little stop and go for the evening trip home. I...

Volkswagen's future cars could come equiped with Google Earth running on NVIDIA 3D accelerated hardware
Google is making quite a splash in the industry in the last year and it doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. According...
The first time I went in to renew my registration, I asked about getting mine changed to diesel. The CR looked it up and suggested I leave it as <cough> gas <cough>, as I would owe more in road taxes for the diesel. I remindeed her it was a car, to which she shrugged. I followed her advice.
Re: My blue breast won\'t start...
An additional update ...
Got the little bugger installed; a grey module replaced a black one. I noticed, peering through a crevice, that the module read "109" and not the research-mentioned "601" (upside down). Being the bright study that I am, I proceeded...
Re: My blue breast won\'t start...
I've picked up a 109 relay and will install it after I drive home tonight ... as long as it starts. The intermittent activity is certainly the norm for the relay. Hopefully, that will do the trick. My EGR should not be gunked up but it is definitely worth a...
Re: My blue breast won\'t start...
I went out to the car after I got in this morning, engaging the key to the first position:
1. The check engine and battery lights stayed on after all the lights cycled.
2. The car cranked right up.
The battery posts are clean so that doesn't appear to be...
