    Tachometer problem

I started my 2001 NB the other day, and the idle surged high at first, then settled down to a high idle for a few more seconds, then its been fine ever since. The problem that has stayed is the tach reading is 500 to 1,000 rpm high now at all times. I have a newer upgraded MAF which the startup...

    need advice front end/brake noise

I've had the car for 50,000 or so miles so far. No obvious signs of damage and its the same rims as ever on it. The noise was barely noticeable at first, then got increasingly louder as time went by. I took the new rotor off and spun it on a brake lathe, they did not have a dial indicator but it...

    need advice front end/brake noise

I'm honestly not sure what it is that bent/warped. I have had the wheel off and turned it, I did this with the new rotor before I even put it back on the ground and it made the noise. Its not a steady drag, more a out of round type noise as it turns smoothly then "sshhhh" makes contact and spins...

    need advice front end/brake noise

I asked over in TDI 101 but no answer so far so thought I'd ask over here. I have a 2001 NB with 90k miles and began to get noise like a warped rotor. I ordered a set of new ATE rotors and pads from tdiparts and installed them, but there was no change in the noise from the drivers side front. I'm...

    Front end/brake noise question

I have a 2001 NB, about 90,000 miles on it. I began to hear a noise like a warped brake rotor on it, so I ordered and installed a set of ATEs from tdiparts, figuring with the wear shown they were due anyhow. The problem is, after the install they make the exact same noise and are getting worse...

Air bag light on - Seat belt switch

Occam, its a 2001 New Beetle with the grey interior. To update,I've taken half the seat trim off and went thru the wiring harness looking for anything obvious and did find a square yellow connection block under the seat, which I took apart and everything in it is clean and intact.I take it the...

Air bag light on - Seat belt switch

My air bag light came on in my 2001 Beetle,so using VAG-COM I came up with left seat belt switch resistance too high under air bag controller. Is this a common problem, wheres it located, and is it a simple R+R with the battery disconnected? Thanks

    Fuel Filter question

After some more research, its the fuel filter used on the earlier genaration TDIs.A guy who owns a 96 Passat said its the same as his car after looking at it.How common is this? It all appears factory installed.

    Fuel Filter question

I went to change my fuel filter in my 2001 Beetle, and it doesn't look like the stock one.It has 4 lines running to it,and no clip housing on the top.Any idea on what I have here, its a gold body with water separator like the stock. Thanks

    Turn signal question

Thanks, are these switch/relays VW dealership only items?

    Turn signal question

All of a sudden,my turn signals started acting up.They blink a couple times and quit.As the weather got warmer they blinked more, but still stopped by themselves. All the light bulbs lit up,so my question is whats my likely culprit here? A turn signal relay, loose ground or? Thanks

    Cold start surge in Memphis

Today I took the MAF out and cleaned it,as it was a little dirty just to see if that would help.Put it back in,fired it up,same old thing with the surge so I unplugged it and the idle smoothed out right away.It didnt trip a CEL light though on my car.I called the local dealer and I am right on...

    Cold start surge in Memphis

I have a 2001 NB,that I havent been able to check with VAG-COM yet.Its always been kind of long cranking hot ro cold to start, but today I noticed some grayish smoke and it began to surge after cranking.Just from idle to about 1200 rpms or so,and it went away after it warmed up.No maintenance has...
