AHU TDI A.S. on Injection Pump

Hello everyone, About 2 weeks ago, i was accelerating onto the interstate and my car, a 98 jetta tdi, lost power, but was still making boost, so i knew it wasnt limp mode. It made a terrible “clattering, diesel knockish” type noise and thought it was a stuck valve or jumped a tooth on the...

1998 Jetta O.E. AC compressor is retiring....

Hello fellow diesel enthusiasts, After having no Air Conditioning for the past few weeks, I have finally had time to swing my car into my local guru as its getting rather toasty in North Texas and its getting to become AC time. After leaving the car with him until he had a chance to diagnose...

98 Jetta A/C Clutch pooped out?

Hey Todd, did a quick check and the hub is spinning when the ac is turned on. Any clue on what to do next? Could this be as simple as adding refrigerant? On another note, my oil cooler seal blew up not long ago and sprayed oil all over the engine bay. I was looking at the connector plug for...

98 Jetta A/C Clutch pooped out?

Hello all, I am having some trouble with my AC in my 98 jetta. As the winter in texas has seemingly come to an end, I am in need of AC again. Heres the problem... when i turn on the AC, i hear the clicking noise and the subtle drop of rpms heard at idle, but no cold air. Its as if the clutch is...

    New B4 Passat Wagon TDI

A quick way to see if fuel is getting to the injectors is to get a wrench and loosen up the injection pump lines at the top of the injectors. Crank it over for a second, if fuel squirts out, you can tighten it down and move to the next one. If no fuel sprays out, errr, drink a cold one (or...

    6.4 powerstroke vnt on a 2.0 8v pd

I have heard that the turbos on the 6.4 stroker, other than the HPFPs, were the weak link. It'll be interesting to see how your turbo holds up, assuming you get the VGT conversion to work with your car sucessfully. How much boost do you plan on running through it?

early '99 A3 Jetta TDI engine crash

At 220K miles on the stock clutch, in my unprofessional opinion, it'd be better to change it while its out then 6 months down the road. Might be a good time to drop oil pan and do rear main seal also. :D Clutch wise, i guess it just depends on if the sprint 520's are going to be your only...

    98 Jetta A/C whining?

It has finally cooled off in North Texas to the point were I can turn off my A/C for the year...I hope. :D However, upon turning it off and driving for a week or so, I have noticed that there is a whining noise upon acceleration and while decelerating while in gear (noise not audible to me at...

Best year model Jetta (non diesel)

Luckily in north Texas our speed limits on I-35 are 75 mph and there are relatively no hills to speak of, so excessive downshifting in the auto shouldn't be too much of a problem. And geez 35mpg in the auto?! Almost sounds too good to be true. She has a couple of ounces of lead in all of her...

    Need help with a gt17

There are many turbos you can run, but only a few that require little to no modifications! I have heard many people like the vnt conversion on our ahu motors to a vnt17 or vnt17/22.

Beetle alh engine upgrade for power

In essence, a 300hp tdi is not impossible, but you will spend a significant amount of money trying to get to that #. If it were my personal vehicle, i would make sure its caught up on all maintenance (timing belt, oil, water pump, suspension bushings, etc) and then would get an upgraded clutch...

    Need help with a gt17

Id also imagine a flexible kermatdi style oil line would be useful as well as the correct fitting for it. Also not sure in the differences on the downpipe, so that might be needed as well. Why did you decide on a Gt17 if I might ask?

    98 jetta pulsating clutch pedal

Abacus, followed your advice and bled the clutch and added some Dot4 fluid and now my clutch pedal has returned to its normal, strong self! Thank you for the advice, as i was afraid it was time for the tranny to come out again!

    98 jetta pulsating clutch pedal

Rattler, my mistake! I will try and get better at that... And I was afraid of that.. Does that mean it is a possible bent fork? I don't want to say i "baby" my car, as I do like to do some spirited driving now and then, but i don't dump the clutch or treat the clutch irresponsibly. I...
