My dad is looking to purchase a new JSW in the Milwaukee WI area. Just wondering if there any dealers to definitely stay away from, or a particular one to go to in the area? Thanks for any help.
Just fixed a very similar problem on a buddys car. The belt would squeak on start up, and would go away temporarily when belt dressing or wax was applied to the side of the belt. I think the squeak is coming from the side of the belt trying to ride up the tensioner pulley, which is the only...
Check the rubber 90* hose at the back of the engine that goes directly into the intake. You have to remove the upper engine cover to get to it. Mine has split on the back side, causing boost leak with black smoke.
If your car is smoking this much, I assume it is in limp mode when driving?
Check all 4 hoses on the charge air cooler system for any leaks or tears. The hose that comes from the turbo to the intercooler crossover pipe is notorious for having a hole rubbed in it.
I had a hole blow out in the short 90 degree elbow at the back of the motor that connects to the intake...
You paid $650? That's more than a good deal, that's incredible. Find a good used engine, put the gear drive balance shaft on it, get steel glow plugs in it and do a complete timing belt kit and run the wheels off it.
Does your sister drive alot every year? Will she be in charge of getting the maintenance done, or is this something you or your dad will be in charge of?
You obviously did not read this forum before thinking about a Passat did you? Balance shaft module upgrade is a pricey item that needs to be done ASAP. Search for it in this forum and read for hours.

See that post for a similar situation that I went through. I believe I paid around $235 from 1stvwparts.com for a new CCC. Best thing to do is to pull the drivers seat out, then pull the carpet up, and get the CCC out and check it for any...
Are your carpets wet? All of those features are controlled by the CCC (central convenience computer) which is located in the drivers footwell. When it rains alot, and your battery drains are plugged up, water can enter the drivers side floor and cause problems with the CCC.
Check the roll stop. It is a motor mount of sorts at the front of the engine that controls "roll" when the engine torques up. It is basically in the center of the car, and has 2 bolts to adjust its position up and down. It fits over a rubber mount that is fixed to the front of the car. Once...
Well, he said the motor was replaced 20k miles ago, with a VW reman engine from the dealer. WVO was not hooked to the replacement engine so the motor currently in the car has not WVO through it. I may look at the car Monday.
I spoke with the owner tonight. It sounds like the engine had a runaway situation due to turbo failure. It is sitting at a dealership now. He said they told him that the turbo needed to be replaced, along with the injection pump and injectors. The car was a WVO car at one point in its life...
Is the metallic sound at the very beginning and again at 11 seconds possibly a metal collar or tag on one of your dogs? If not, then I would definitely be getting that noise looked into in a hurry.
On edit, it probably is one of your dogs collars, but the car does have a slight noise to it.
