    Seat Belt Chime...

fixed my chime I've had this issue with my 09 and fixed it today. Here's what I did. You need a 10 mm triple square drive to remove the seat rails then disconnect the connector coming from the seat belt attachment, then short out the "male " portion of the plug ( I used an small alligator clip)...

Defective exhaust flap - covered under emissions warrantee?

my 09 threw a code for the same thing at 92000km. I had the dealer remove the flapper valve, lube it and re-install. Labour only cost me $62. It was stuck open. The mech said it was easy ( if you have a lift to get at it) . He used air tool oil to lube it after a good shot of WD 40 and some...

    problems with battery

I had similar probs with my old 02. It turned out to be the diode pack on the alternator and it was temperature related. The draw occurred when the car cooled down. I would disconnect a battery cable whenever I parked it until the problem was found. New alternator needed cause the diode pack is...

The one year, 0 problem thread

One year and 36000 km and no issues of any significance. I still get the occasional "hiccup" of the engine as I crest a hill. My wife who has better hearing than I do, heard an air leak around the bottom left portion of the rear window...I poked around and pressed it and now it's gone..she...

Can't Get Rear Wheel Off !!

The rust and crud has "sealed' the rim to the hub. I've had this happen to a Corrolla I once had. I had to bang away at the tire from the other side with a long 4X4 until it came off. I've heard of people who would drive the car for a bit with the lug nuts loose to unseat it. When you do get it...

DSG or 6sp manual in TDI? From drivability perspective..

I still remember as a kid that my dad would often start off in 2nd in his 56 Pontiac 3 spd. Yup... he had to replace the clutch every 30,000 mi. I love shifting my 6 spd ...makes me feel that I'm driving and not some computer. Ted

    MFD resetting itself

wonky MFD I had a funny readout on my 09's( 12,000 km) MFD. After about a 2 hr highway drive we were stuck in stop and go traffic. The MFD which was on the litres/100 km page started giving all sorts of way out of whack readings of fuel consumption ...and it was changing all the time. The...

    Class i or ii hitch

Got a class 1 on my 09 , it's rated at 2000lbs and 200 lb tongue wgt from Hidden Hitch. Works great, I'm not afraid of overloading for a short hop. A good deal for $326 installed with wiring. Ted

    Wheel Bearing at 72000KM

On my old 02, one front bearing went at 145,000km the others are still going strong at almost 300,000km. The torquing procedure is easily misunderstood or short cuts may have been taken, (a worker taking a siesta on the job?) Anyway, they are unpredictable, the bearings , not the Mexicans. Ted

2009 A/C : How does it work so smooth?

All of the above plus the fact that the R134 gas is less dense than the old freon and less of a load on the compressor. If you watch the fuel consumption page on the MFD you'll see the EDC pump up the fuel flow when the A/C goes on. mine jumps from .8L/hr to .9L/hr. I once had a 66 beetle with...

    Removing Water Pump - A4

If I recall from a couple times we pulled them off during TB work ,they can be quite stiff in there..... a little prying with a flat screwdriver was all it took. Ted

Am I the only one enjoying their '09?

My 09 Jetta finally arrived last week, 6 spd, sedan ,highline, wheat beige. What a joy to drive, it was worth the wait. The only issue(minor) I have is that I liked the higher seating in my old 02 and now it's more low slung ...oh well... less drag. I love the tone of the exhaust, just enough of...

    IP and DMF questions

Thanks for the info Nigel. I researched the car thru the dealer who serviced it and it had a bunch of electrical codes for the IP.. That doesn't worry me as much as the vibration in the flywheel. I 've done 4 TB's with Yuri so like you say an IP switch is relatively easy, and I have a source...

WTB: A4 Jetta wagon 5 spd

Looking for a reliable Wagon 5 spd as a second car...(still waiting for my 09). Leather or fabric, a hitch and metal skid plate would be nice. High km is not an issue if car was maintained on schedule. With the Canadian dollar tanking lately an Ontario car would probably be the beat deal. PM...

    IP and DMF questions

This past week I got my urge to get into a TDI again after helping YMZ with his TB at my place. I'm still waiting for my 09 on order and may not get it for 3 months or so. I found an 01 Golf TDI for sale at a great price...lots of KM (over 300K) but the car has been serviced regularly (TB etc)...

    pulsing lights?

I had a similar problem with my 02, turned out it was a loose battery terminal. The one on the positive with the 10 mm bolt that goes to the terminal box on top of the battery. hope that's all you got, an alternator is $$$$. Ted
