An update...
Well, I got caught up with work so have been unable to get to the TDI window regulator repair... I've been driving around with the window glass taped in the closed position and the interior door skin removed (I have to reconnect it to pop the gas cap, but thanks to good MPG that's...
I'll look for the tutorial...
Thanks for the advice... I didn't see such a tutorial either here or at Vortex, but I was searching on 'window' etc... and not 'regulator.' I'll look again. Hopefully, it will give me some idea how to get the metal skin off properly, since the regulator is behind it.
Thanks!
Thanks for the help/memory jog. With the glass down in the door, I can only manage to get the metal/inner skin off about an inch... not far enough for me to see behind it to see what's catching. I went so far as to try to inspect behind it with a flashlight and dental mirror (to see...
Regulator? That's just the cables/pulleys/spring stuff, not the motor itself (which seems fine) right? Have you taken the inner/metal door skin off completely, and if so, do you recall how? I can get the bottom edge about an inch away from the door but clearly some other stuff has to happen...
Hmmm.....
I magaged to fish the window up and now have it taped up/shut. In so doing, I was able to see the two clips through the (rubber cap) portals and they both appear to be attached: the glass has NOT come unclipped as suggested earlier.
However, by prying the bottom of the inner/metal...
Thanks... I did open the rubber caps but wasn't able to grab/lift the glass through them, let alone see any clips or tracks... I'll try again (maybe using a coat hanger to catch the bottom of the glass) and see what happens.
Per the earlier (recall) suggestion... I called VWoA and it turns out...
Thanks for the feedback... I'll call VW Monday and see if it's something a dealer will fix per the recall. Personally, I'd really rather take care of it myself since the local dealers I'm familiar with (Van Nuys, Glendale, etc...) have left me unimpressed service-wise.
If anyone's got/knows of...
Apologies if this has been asked before... I searched but didn't see a post that applied exactly.
I have a '00 (A4) Golf GLS TDI and a couple days ago the drivers window glass (electric windows) suddenly seemed to 'slip' down into the door and not want to come back up... there's still noise...
That 'koo ool' or 'ugly' little car is the Audi A2... which:
Is no longer made AFAICR... there were threads here about it a couple years ago... probably still searchable.
It's hardly comparable to a 'Rabbit' ...the A2 was positioned as a luxury (Audi interior and build quality and technology)...
Nice, but caveat...
I'd like one too, but with a no-options base MSRP of just under $26K, the plain gas entry-level A3 is already a bit spendy for a Golf-based hatchback, no matter how stylish the interior. And it stands to reason (based on VW TDI price bumps vs. gas versions) that a stateside...
Just a followup...
For closure: I didn't run across any decent buys on a set of VW OEM rims with usable rubber in my area, so I wound up with a set of Kuhmo Solus KH-16 (aka KH-18 @ PepBoys) for my factory GLS alloys. Total cost at Discount Tire in (east) Hollywood was $280. including all the...
Just a followup: I got my car back this morning from Harv at Wild Rose Motors.
Not only was the work done by skilled independent mechanic with a TDI-savvy reputation that's unmatched in the SoCal area, but even with some extra stuff (a new set of glow plugs curing a CEL I had, etc...) the...
Thanks for the info... I'd like to make it to one of the GTGs to meet some TDI brethren and get the TB swap done for a bit less cash, but will probably wind up going to Harvieux in Fullerton as soon as I can schedule it.
Pardon my asking (I *am* searching old threads on the topic) but it seems...
Approaching 40Kmiles on my '00 Golf GLS and it's time for new tires. Before I pore over threads to see what brand/model of tire is well-regarded (I'm more into a quiet, comfortable ride these days than sporty driving... must be getting old ;) ) I was just wondering if anyone maybe had upgraded...
Approaching 40K in my '00 TDI Golf automatic, and as much as I'd like to avail myself of the $599. timing belt deal at Fixum Haus in August, going all the way to Portland is probably not likely.
Can anyone suggest a reputable place in/around LA for this procedure? Obviously I'd like it done...
Oh! This is the same as the "R5" TDI Toureg in Europe maybe? The only way I'd buy such a machine (a Toureg or any med/bigger SUV-type thingy) is if it came with a realistic diesel like the R5... that 10 cylinder Toureg is impressive to be sure, but for pete's sake, it IS so much overkill for 99%...
You're more than welcome... best of luck. Let us know where you wind up going and how it works out... never know when one of us can use the info too. ;)
Just a follow up I should have posted ages ago: I did wind up replacing relay 109 and haven't had any trouble since. The CEL is still on (no low-power symptoms though) since I don't yet own a scanner to read/reset the leftover code.
I've had this car for almost 6 years now (I bought it one...
