Yes you need to leave the two orange data wires intact. Without them, the head unit will not recognize the satellite input.

TDItom has it right. I travel a lot in rual areas at night and deer are everywhere. Flashing your lights and using your horn with a 55 - 60 mph speed is a good baseline for the life of the car. ;)

I too have the control unit. It appears to be for the seats. I have the memory seat option and wonder if the module is also used in the Audi which also has memory steering wheel adjust, mirror adjust, pedel adjust, etc... just a thought. ~M
