Mine did this a couple of times before the voltage regulator bit the dust. I'd check the battery connections and the charging system.

This install is on a VE series injection pump, engine code ALH, which does not have lift pump in the tank.

Thats why he is asking for a VAG Tacho. It will retrieve the SKC (secret key code) which you then use with VAG-COM to enable the key to communicate with the Immo cluster.

+1 I've got an EGR in my garage in Columbus. Several options in the ATL outside of the dealer.

Pete just did mine last week, great turnaround. I replaced the nozzles with PP520s and since Pete ballanced and cleaned the injectors the car idles much smoother and the engine smokes far less at WOT. He has a post in the classified secton/group buys and venders with the prices.

If you've done your maintenance on the '04 I wouldn’t worry about the smoke. Both of my PDs smoked more than the VE in my '02. Not sure where in GA you are located but there are a couple of folks in the ATL that you can trust with your car.
