Bought from new dimensions in 2001, has been off the car since 2002. The car got chipped and i took it off (it still worked fine) and kinda 'lost' it. Well it has been found and you can have it for the princly sum of $100 shipped. I'll also consider trades. This thing cost me 400 + bucks...
Wow, HI!
amazing what will show up when you google you internet handle.
Yes i am still an avid diesel head, yes i can do timing belts on ALH's (among all the other **** that i've had to fix for various reasons), and yes i am willing to help. I'm cheaper than a mechanic by far, you can know...
i always said that if my golf got totaled out from the rear i'd swap the engine/trans into my cabriolet. Now that i went through the trouble of swaping a 16V into it (wow its fast!).... I guess i'd have to do it to a mk1 or mk2. My DD needs to be a hard top;)

I never knew this, good info. CAT working on a VW engine.... hrm... mabye i need to hit them up for a job when i graduate :)
I've had some self-influcted problems with mine, but the major thing is the MAF and that damn CEL for the glowplug harness. The injector seals went bad twice two, but thats easy to fix and costs all of 4 dollars and about 2 hours of your time.
been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
Then the place i took my spindle to to press the bearing cracked the new bearing from improper pressing. Didn't tell me...... so 2 months later i had to buy 400 bucks worth of crap to fix THAT mistake. Needless to say i pressed it myself.
So...
These things really work you know, its a well documented fact.
BUT, you'll never see it on a car or small engine, too many variables.
On large industruial gen. sets the gains are 1-2%
my car didn't start this moring. bollocks.
edit; just called the dealer, 99 bucks with a 60 month waranty. 1) This one lasted 6 years 2)I know its right, no BS 3) about the same price as another leading brand.
I'm just gonna take my OTHER VW up there tomorrow and pick one up.
