anybody know what the difference (estimate) in price would be for a new auto tranny and going ahead and replacing it with a 5-speed?? wouldn't all of this be covered under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty that the 01 have?

Thanks... It's an automatic. "Mr. Transmission" is doing the replacement. You're making me think I need to just walk away from this one and keep looking. Should I even bother having it inspected or just tell them to cancel the sale? <laugh> This does not sound encouraging at all.
