"Biodiesel blends have two characteristics that may reduce exhaust temperatures. First, the higher cetane will lower EGTs because more of the combustion event will take place in the cylinder before the exhaust valves start to open. Second, the moisture content of biodiesel may lower EGTs. These...
"WVO gasses condensing"
It;s just plain unburned polymerized vegetable oil.
I got tons of it on my garage floor.
I added some VO to cc oil and heated at 350*F for 24 hours.
It jelled. Given enough time heat and oxygen it would poly. further into gum then plastic which is what you have.
"I ran mostly canola/cottonseed, some soy early on
P520s were installed about 2000 miles before quitting WVO"
Cottenseed looks ok to use, iodine # close to soy.
But it's unusual. Was it food grade?
P250s installed so late they weren't the cause of your problems.
Were there any signs of...
I've been changing the oil every 9-10k miles, despite recommendations to change at 4K. So I'm worst case.
Here are today's photo's of the valve cover and cam at 102K WVO and 182K total miles:

Hi sdeck,
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Thanks for sharing the alert and remedial procedures.
I'll check under my cover this weekend.
Were you running the P520 injectors during your 40K WVO experience?
DR also had a main seal leak and was also running fatter injectors.
Perhaps both cars...
"You'll also find a lot of pictures of conversions, probably some on your year vehicle."

"If this thread doesn't have a point anymore, I will close it at Biodiesel's request."
Wow! Now THIS is something to report! Somebody read my mind!
Sorry , not applying for the ambassador job. My kill file filters out those who type 10 sentences for every one they read.
"Because TDIClub...
"I would go so far as to say if you can't install the kit yourself, WVO will most likely be an uphill battle at best."
I had two customers for whom I installed single tank Elsbett IDI M-B's.
One was a lady caterer. The other admitted no automotive knowledge.
The lady ran virgin SVO till her M-B...
On my A3, the inside diameter is 6mm. Just under 1/4"
The hose you linked is soft rubber. The stock fuel line is hard plastic.
You don't need to replace the plastic fuel line to be bd compatible.
Plastic won't swell or sweat from bd.
I would suggest something like PEX tubing if you do need to...
"Lugnut - you sure they are under pressure all the time on a standard system?"
Yes. What happens when the engine isn't running?
iirc, someone had a TDI with hard start after sitting three days.
Air was coming in the interinjector lines ( while sitting ). Cured it by clamping the ends of the hoses.
Pictures of the inside of the head
Poked around a bit here and found a picture of TDI cylinder head that looks close to mine at 162K total 82K of WVO.
Minus the brown stains and missing valve.

Original pictures were...
Yup.
This belongs at the end of every WVO thread:
"Realize that most, if not all, of the folks condeming WVO have never used WVO. Most, if not all, are excellent mechanics but have no real personal experience running vegetable oil in TDI. You will be wise to seek their advice on general TDI...
"Six months of running 100 (or as close to it as possible) biodiesel did nothing "
It didn't work for everyone. Never figured it out then, and I am no longer interested.
But it was confirmed by 3 or 4 others. And many who didn't realize it was happening. Reports of: "I just switched to B100 and...
BioDiesel enema
Perhaps the enema doubters can try reading posts I and Old Navy made Nov 2001 to March 2002 in the Fuels&Lubes forum. If they still exist. iirc it was titled: "Biodiesel cleaned my sooted intake", or something like that.
I have no doubt what cleaned out my EGR. Here's a hint...
Always wit the negative waves Moriarty!
The M-B is doing well, did 165k w/o a sig problem.

"Therefore re: that standard, B100 is an advantage."
Yes you are correct. B100 leads to less soot and DPF plugging. In the Cummins study, their DI diesel ran as clean on B100 w/o a DPF as when LSD fueled WITH a DPF!
The problem is, most buyers will run them on diesel fuel so...
Cold filtered
"How is the cold filtering by the way? How long does it take for the oil to filter though??"
C.F. is S-L-O-W.
In my 32-70*F garage I go from 0 to 2 gallons/day/3' filterbag.
I usually have to buy virgin SVO Dec. - March
Although a 1500W electric radiant space heater 2' away can...
