Nissan Titan 1/2 ton Cummins diesel

    So now there will be a 3.0 L V6 Ram diesel (240 hp & 420 lb-ft) and a 5.0 L V8 Nissan Cummins (300 hp 500-550 lb-ft). The Ford Transit is coming with a 3.2 L I5 that some have hypothesized could find a home in the next F-150. I wonder how that 197 hp and 347 lb-ft would be received, especially...

    2014 model year info (official)

It seems Night Blue and Moonrock are no longer an offered combination. A shame. Now Moonrock is only available with Platinum Gray or Reflex Silver.

Need advice: WTB a new non-VAG Diesel

Those sound like familiar desires in a next car. Since the addition of my daughter to the family, I have had to alter my plans for another vehicle. I want to get something that will meet the needs of my family and myself for 8-10 years which will mean carrying between 3-5 people and 1-2 dogs...

NEW 2014 IMPALA looks like a PASSAT 2012 CLONE

When the NMS launched, plenty of people said it looked like the then current, now last generation, Impala that was the last of the front bench seat models in the US. You can't blame GM for continuing a lot of the model's design elements from the previous generation. It does seem to be earning...

    2014 model year info (official)

The manual SE plus option of a sunroof might be just enought to push me over the hurdle of getting a new car. As it stands, I am locked in a dilemma as to whether I'd rather wait for the Mazda 6 diesel—most likely auto only but available with a presumably full loaded configuration—or sacrifice...

    Ram 1500 diesel

While towing capacity may not change from the Hemi (since it is the same for the Grand Cherokee Hemi and CRD), the transmission is technically not the same. There are two versions of the TorqueFlight 8, the low-torque 8HP45/845RE (Pentastar 3.6L V6 only) and the high-torque 8HP70/870RE (Hemi...

    Ram 1500 diesel

Finally. Funny that the announcement came outside of a major auto show, but it seems the media forced Ram's hand a bit by obtaining a copy of an internal report. I had been very interested in the Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel until they made the cosmetic refresh on the exterior. This has...

    i'm desperate

Thought about the Mazda CX-5, probably the 2.5L SkyActiv since you want power and efficiency? Lots of space, conventional technology, and has been receiving strong reviews since launch. Additionally, it returns about the best real world mpg of any crossover. But you shouldn't rush into a...

Chevy Cruze Diesel a direct competitor to the Jetta TDI

In an effort to return this to Cruze TD discussion, I will be watching the launch pretty closely. The Cruze is smaller than I think I want my next car to be, but I have always liked its resemblance to the 1st gen Mazda3. As has been stated plenty before, this setup has some pros and cons...

Gasser 6: the price is right!

The limited features and specifications, especially when combined with the manual, are among the more frustrating aspects of Mazda's strategy. I don't find a rearview camera necessary, but Bluetooth for compliance with hands-free calling is a nice touch. The caveat being, if the manufacturer...

Chevy Cruze Diesel a direct competitor to the Jetta TDI

Seems much more realistic than the 168 hp, 52 mpg hwy. I agree, price is a bit high since the Passat is right around there and is significantly larger. Transmission, specs, and options obviously will come into play, but the Cruze Eco has a manual so maybe the Diesel will start there also. I...

Agree, not surprising. Hopefully the information will carry over and continue to be posted.

    DC/MD/VA Winter 2013 Get-Together

No, the RAV is not something about which I care enough to read or be part of a community. It's been a fantastically reliable car over 9 years and only 78k miles, but it just doesn't interest me all that much. Its short wheelbase and higher H-point are pretty handy in parallel parking and...

    Handbrake usage

I use the parking/handbrake in every car I drive, manual or automatic, flat ground or steep. I've never had an issue with snapping or seizure. I haven't lived in extremely cold environments though. I will say they do require the occasional adjustment as I've been in a couple of vehicles that...

    DC/MD/VA Winter 2013 Get-Together

Thanks. It's a 2004 RAV4. It was my wife's car until we got a new Escape for her. I didn't want to have 2 car payments since my Mazda3 was not going to be a long-term car so I moved to the RAV. It's FWD with a 4-spd auto but manages to return 22-26 mpg in my DC commute. Pretty good...

    DC/MD/VA Winter 2013 Get-Together

I'd like to make one of these while I'm living in an area that has such an active group of owners, but I'll feel pretty out of place in a salty RAV4. How often do these happen, quarterly? Maybe next time.

End of MY2013, Start of MY2014

I went to the DC Auto Show yesterday and drove the Jetta TDI DSG and Passat TDI DSG back to back. Couldn't believe how much difference in feel there is between the two in 0-30 mph driving. How do people deal with the Jetta's throttle response? Regardless, I'll go with 6MT over the DSG on a...

    Mazda SkyActiv Diesel Engine

Different strokes for different volks they say. I grew up on NASCAR and the air-cooled VW was quite popular in the same circles decades after they stopped production. It would give VW some exposure to a segment of the population that, in my experience, is currently driving very few FWD VWs. It...

    Mazda SkyActiv Diesel Engine

Sad to see the troubles in Daytona. Outings like this will certainly not encourage VW to field the TDI in non-spec series as much as I'd like to see otherwise. NASCAR has moved on slightly, but I still think the Passat would translate to a convincing stock car body.

    Your dream diesel

The understeer would be incredible from all that nose weight, but it'd sure be a beauty. I've always been a fan of pre-WWII design. A nice early '30s 4-door sedan with a strong I4 or I6 diesel driving the rear wheels would make for a lovely cruiser.
