Trusted TDI Mechanics - By State

Another vote for People's Auto in Somers, CT. I brought my golf there due to the recommendations here for a bunch of small issues I've been having and a not so small issue with my brakes. I left it there for a week while on vacation with a laundry list of items and asked that it be in...

Turanza LS-H observation and fuel mileage

I noticed more than a 1mpg drop when I dropped my stock Continental tires to the LS-H's a year ago. I've got to say thier dry and wet handling and wear have been subpurb. I will definatly look at them again for my next tire. Food for though LS-H is a standard tires on the new civic.

Pully chewed threw pipe - what'd it eat?

I hadn't actually been active here for a year or two until recently again (few weeks ago). Ok I think it's the pipe that came loose as it was easy for me to move it around up and out a few inches which shouldn't happen if it was properly attached.

Pully chewed threw pipe - what'd it eat?

Damn, so I was right it is thier fault! I'm in CT. The car just got towed back to New Milford dealership as they did the timing belt job. The dealer thats closer ****ed up my car during the last 2 services so I don't use them anymore. The fact that I have a few minor electrical gremlins I'm...

Pully chewed threw pipe - what'd it eat?

You think one of the motor mounts gave way allowing this to happen? I don't think they touched the motor mounts during an 80k service do they? The pipe it sliced through was very easy to move around, so I'm wondering if it wasn't reattached properly after they did the timing belt.

Pully chewed threw pipe - what'd it eat?

I was driving to my parents house today and lost power on the highway. I managed to limp the rest of the way to thier house in 4th gear flooring it to keep power. It felt like the MAF went out so I was just trying to get to thier house and deal with it from there. I got to thier house and...

how would you address this issue?

With rattles you need to go on a drive with the service writer / technician to point it out. Most dealerships will just blow you off otherwise.

    More keys, please.

I believe that the remote portion can be done easily enough, but the microchip to unlock the imobilizer needs to be done at a dealer (I don't recall it being done with a vag-com) and would require all keys to be present as it wipes the memory of the computer when you add keys.

    Another dealer F-up.

It's not a learning issue on my part, its that I'm not allowed to perform maintance at my condo, and while I was under warranty I wanted the proper paper trail incase I needed to get some serious work done. I'm looking to buy a house to replace my condo this summer, so I'll be able to tinker...

    2001 Wolfsburg springs?

Yes they are slightly stiffer than the stock springs on TDIs (except for maybe the NB which IIRC gets the 'sport' package on all models).

    Fast Idle on Warm Start

The fast idle wasn't an issue the first time I was getting this thermostat error. That's why I didn't think they were related. Why would an error on a coolant sensor cause a fast idle is what I don't get.

    Another dealer F-up.

Don't trust any dealer farther than you can throw them even the ones you think you can trust. I'd have great relationship with my dealership for getting my golf service up til my 60k service when they told me my oilpan was leaking at the drain nut. The first tried to pawn it off on me or...

    Fast Idle on Warm Start

2002 Golf TDI. I've noticed on warm starts I'm getting a fast idle around 1100rpm instead of the normal 850/900rpm. I had a on and off (seems outdoor temp depdant) CEL for temp out or range on the thermostat. I had that replaced last May and it's come back (after abou 20k). Are there any...

No \"Beep\" When Locking the Car The lights will ALWAYS flash to acknowledge the command. the horn only beeps when everything has responded to the command correctly. On the golf there is a bug in he alarm system where if you stop the car, unlock all the doors via the unlock butotn on the...

EGR Vag-com mod and passing emission testing . .

That's what I was hoping that I'd be all set since I'm not throwing CEL's and I can check my fault codes right before I go in (vag-coms are the best things ever!). Yeah I could always set it back to stock before hand, but I think I'll be fine.

    Case of 4-gallons of Delvac-1 for $78.99

That's a nice price! I just paid about 95bucks with tax here in CT for a case.

EGR Vag-com mod and passing emission testing . .

Great thanks. I didn't think I would since the EGR setting is vag-com and not OBDII plus they aren't tail pipe sniffing. As for the battery I don't know about ECU settings b/c I do know the windows have to be reset for auto up/down which is in the manual and only pre2001's need to recode the...

EGR Vag-com mod and passing emission testing . .

I just did the EGR mod via my vag-com (just got it at waterfest) and I'm wondering what I should do when emissions time rolls around. CT has shut down their program for the last year or so to put a new one in place. From what I understand on our DMV's website is that it will be an OBD computer...

    Dinging with Glow Plugs?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have a feeling that's what it is. Because I don't usualy put my belt on until I've started the car, and just recently the glow plugs have actually had to cycle so I'm just noticing it. Ohh well I feel dumb now
