    First long trip...45.6mpg

Coming back home I wicked it up a bit, even had some steady cruise periods in the 90mph range. Still got near 38 mpg (calculated by Fuelly). I'm amazed at how well the car performes and how efficient it is. Even my "stuck in traffic" city driving I do daily returns 34 to 36mpg. Here's my...

    First long trip...45.6mpg

DSG indeed. I drove using "D" mode and didn't lead foot it on entrance ramps (like I normally do). I didn't baby it, and did get on it a few times to get around left lane hogs and such. Tomorrow I will be making the trip back home. I play on driving it like I stole it and see what sort of...

    First long trip...45.6mpg

I took my first trip, a little over 700 miles, and made it almost all the way on a single tank. I filled up at 650mi and had an indicated 30 miles till empty. This was running 70-80mph on the interstate most of the time. Got in some heavy traffic a few times though. I can absolutely see how...

DSG - Still needs work in my opinion

VW calls it a Wolksvagen too. But we all know it's a Volkswagen. :)

    660 miles ...

I'm taking my first long trip on Friday. 715 miles total one way. I'm not banking on making it on a single tank (mainly because my wife has some sort of issue with stopping to pee every 50 miles), but I am going to see how far I can make it before the fuel light comes on. Not taking any chances...

DSG - Still needs work in my opinion

The only issue I have with my DSG that is a bit frustrating is the "bucking" at low speeds, but I've learned how to drive around it. Basically, just take your foot off the brake and let the car move forward. The only time this doesn't work is if you are on a hill, then the hill control kicks in...

Newbie here, bought my Jetta May 5th

I think it's funny when people complain about the hard dash. My friends $50,000 Chevy Tahoe has the same dash. Hard plastic.

    Aftermarket stereo head unit, help!

As much as I love aftermarket stereos, I'm probably going to leave my factory unit alone. I would love to have a small sub mounted in the rear deck though. A single 8" would probably be fine. Might have to try to rig something up.

    2011 TDI Jetta - I'm In!

Mileage will increase. My first tank was 32mpg, followed by 34, then 37. It keeps going up with every tank and the engine gets broken in a bit.

OK: time for your TDI best/worst features

I'm 6'5" as well. Plenty of room for me. Barnyards....be careful trying to fit your cab in the back seat. My hand slipped and I ended up with a nice dent in the rear quarter panel. Thank goodness for paintless dent repair! I guess if I could figure out a way to power my amp, I could put my...

OK: time for your TDI best/worst features

My armrest works perfectly. Of course, I have my seat all the way back courtesy of my 36" inseam.

    11 Jetta TDI fuel failure

I don't buy the "bad fuel" argument. These cars have a fuel filter, and most diesels have a water separator (not sure about the TDI). Contamination and water should never reach the HPFP if the filters do their job.

Got 5 miles off the lot and it broke down!!!

Wonder what the Carfax says? If it's been sold, there should be a record of it.

    Radio issue

I've had that happen before. Not only in my Jetta, but in my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the stock radio and another vehicle with a Sony aftermarket unit in it. It's a function of the iPod. If you unplug your iPod and it doesn't come back to life, hold down the "Menu" and the "select" button...

OK: time for your TDI best/worst features

My car is whisper quiet. Too quiet in fact. Can barely hear the engine once it's warmed up. I'm a bass player (hobbyist, not a pro), so I tend to enjoy a thick bottom end. The stock sound system isn't horrible, but it really needs a sub.

    DSG shift hesitation

I love my DSG. The only time I've experienced any strangeness is when I go to pull away, then change my mind right about the time it shifts into second gear. That tends to confuse it. It's really no different that acclerating with a manual in first gear, clutch out, then backing out of the...

OK: time for your TDI best/worst features

I agree. One would think that in 2011, we could get decent speakers and a decent stock amp. I'd trade in all the touch screen gadgetry for a top shelf set of speakers, a sub, and a decent amp from the factory.

OK: time for your TDI best/worst features

Best: 1. Torque 2. Handling 3. Comfort 4. Value (I paid far less than $28,000) 5. Features 6. Trunk space 7. Rear seat space 8. Best automatic transmission I've ever experienced Worst: 1. Fake leather 2. Service cost (once the free service is over)

    Baby got Tinted

When they tinted the windshield, they popped the mirror off the mount, cut a small hole in the tint, and put it in place. When they were done, the popped the mirror back on. In Tennessee, we don't have inspection stickers or any sort of sticker that goes on your windshield. We do get emissions...

    Inserting Diesel Nozzle

The larger nozzles are typically used on the high speed pumps for filling big trucks. If you stop at truck stops and use the lanes for the big trucks you will typically get those. If the truck stop is busy, you'll have pissed off truckers waiting on you to fit that big hose in your little car...
