Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

I agree but I have the volkswagen representative on record saying if the check engine light comes on after I drive the car away from the dealership, it will be covered. The problem is that the engine has already gone to 250°+.

Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

I got a call back today from volkswagen customer care. They contacted the dealership and because there was no check engine light, they aren't going to warranty it. I asked if they would warrant it if I would pay the diagnostic fee, drive it around for a little and if the car overheats, and the...

Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

I assumed there were no trapped air pockets based on the work I did. Swapping the engine coolant is pretty simple. Pop off the coolant return line and make sure the reservoir never empties. Sure, I don't know what the prior owner did, but it was a woman who had an extended 3rd party warranty...

Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

When I drained and filled the system with new coolant, I never let the coolant reservoir empty out. I must have put 1200 miles on the car since then. After replacing the fluid, I drove the car around San Diego for about a month. For Thanksgiving I drove to family in the Central California...

Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

It wasn't low on coolant. I replaced all the coolant because I had purchased the car 3 months ago and went through replacing fluids and filters on everything but the brakes. The previous owner was using autozone coolant, that is supposedly equivalent, but just to be sure I swapped it. I ran the...

Can thermostat housing thermostat cause car to overheat?

My 2015 Jetta TDI with 90k miles is overheating. I don't know how high the temp went before the temp indicator on the dash popped up because I pulled over and waited until it cooled down. I drove the car to a VW dealer and on the way I monitored the temperature using an obd2 reader and android...

CEL still comes on after plugging in Vacuum to EGR

I erased the codes this morning and I've driven the car 3 times. No codes pop up. I'll continue driving it for a day or 2 before going back to SMOG. I went to get a quote on removing the MAP sensor from the intercooler. The washer fluid reservoir is removed but the screw heads on the...

CEL still comes on after plugging in Vacuum to EGR

What do you guys think about a possible faulty MAP sensor? I was reading somewhere that someone had some of the same symptoms and their fix was the MAP. I went to look at the MAP Sensor today and both screws were so rusted the heads popped off before I was able to unscrew them. The MAP...

CEL still comes on after plugging in Vacuum to EGR

I forgot to mention, after reattaching the vacuum hose, when the car starts there is sprinkling of carbon that comes out of the exhaust. I assume this normal but I don't remember seeing it when the the vacuum hose was disconnected. Also, the first couple starts of the engine produced more than...

CEL still comes on after plugging in Vacuum to EGR

Scanned P0102. MAF signal too low. I swapped the MAF out with a cheapie I purchased on Amazon and unplugged the battery. The code came back on the dash after driving it 20 yards. The EGR has been disabled for 2 years and the vacuum hose has been blocked with a bolt. After plugging in the egr...

CEL still comes on after plugging in Vacuum to EGR

I connected the vacuum hose to the EGR today and unplugged the battery to remove the CEL. I started it up and the CEL came back after driving 100 yards. I haven't scanned the computer yet. I'll be doing that tomorrow. Months ago I changed the vacuum hoses to silicone hoses. I see no difference...

2015 Jetta tdi SE timing Water Pump Conundrum

My sister has a 2015 Jetta tdi and she's about to order parts for the timing belt change and she asked me to help her. I went to idparts.com and found a kit. The water pump is made by Geba and it says "The Geba water pump is a non-variable pump and does not include the solenoid valve. The...

    Investigating Diesel Smell

I forgot about this thread so I thought to give it an update to finish it off. The diesel smell is no longer present. I believe the smell was coming from the injectors and/or the hard lines allowing minute amounts of diesel to come out and vaporize when the engine warms up. The reason I think...

    Investigating Diesel Smell

So, the mechanic put the new lines on. They didn't have a tool that could fit to get 25Nm. After he swapped the lines I drove the car for half a mile and popped the hood. They didnt seem to leak from the lines anymore but I did notice something else. At the bottom of the #4 injector, where the...

    Investigating Diesel Smell

Update: I found some aftermarket injector pipes from kbdieselperformance.com . I paid under $145 for a full set through Amazon. I received them today and they look identical except for the clamps that hold them in pairs. I spoke with the mechanic today and he said he wasn't sure why 1 and...

    Investigating Diesel Smell

I described the leak wrong. It's only coming from the top of 2 of the injectors ; between the hard line and the injector. The mechanic says there is no seal between the hard line pipe and injector. It's a compression clamp.

I assume you mean by the mechanic, not the injector rebuilder?

    Investigating Diesel Smell

They were rebuilt by BECs Pacific in Whittier CA. I was told they have the testing equipment to rebuild these injectors by 2 rebuildsrs in my area that I known for 10 years. Install the hard lines correctly? I don't know what that would entail. It doesn't look that complicated. I don't know...

    Investigating Diesel Smell

Last week I got the car back with the rebuilt injectors installed and the next day the problem continued. The car started a little rough like before. Small puff of white smoke like before. The smell of raw diesel was in the air. I figured I would get to work on double checking everything...
