    Belly plastics

You need a metal bash plate under the engine for sure. I replaced the busted original plastic underbits with ID parts replacements and they've held up well. Increasing ride height is a good idea, ID Parts "beef on a budget" spring kit will raise the car just enough at the same price as standard...

VW considers German factory closures for first time in 87-year history

The EV evangelists and the politicians and automakers they conned failed to recognize the inertia of big systems- Like the century of engine and infrastructure development the IC engine has benefitted from. There is simply no way the EV can duplicate that, even in a decade or three.

    The time has come

When the incoming US CEO threatens Canada with 25% tariffs on everything, it's time to stock up!

    real world EVs review

To make their new engine cost comparisons look favorable to EVs the EV advocates quote the dealer installed price of a new IC engine. But in the real world engines are rebuilt or remanufactured for considerably less cost, but the automakers still pretty well control the market for replacement EV...

VW considers German factory closures for first time in 87-year history

A lot of the policy decisions that decide where our electricity comes from are the work of powerful lobbying groups. For example, the Sierra Club is still hurting from a battle they lost a century ago to stop a dam from being built... So they've persuaded the EPA to de-emphasize hydro even...

Differences between a Golf PD150 Turbo and a Cupra PD160 Turbo?

IIRC the Cupra brand is a more recent invention that the A4 Golfs, so doubt they'd share many parts.

American consumers are increasingly underwater on their car loans

When those old joints and back get bad enough you need a wheelchair you'll find the seat height of a VW or similar sedan or hatch is "just right" and the taller vehicles are shoulder wrecking disasters. The lower loading height of hatchbacks and minivans is a bonus too!

    Rocker panel replacement?

No point in cutting rusting rockers off a car when new rockers are available.

    Rocker panel replacement?

Volkswagen or their supplier. The German manufacturers were leaders in switching over to galvanized steel because their customers were tired of their expensive German cars failing TUV inspections due to rust when they weren't even 10 years old. Just about every German car built in the last 10...

    Rocker panel replacement?

IIRC the rocker panels are galvanized steel and make poisons gas when welded. So unless you're set up to deal with that, I'd use rivets and/or adhesives instead.

ABS Locked my car up in the middle of nowhere...

ESP can activate the brakes to stop wheelspin, but only on the drive wheels of which you should have only two.

ABS Locked my car up in the middle of nowhere...

ABS failure would more likely release the brakes.

VW considers German factory closures for first time in 87-year history

Awful expensive way to achieve "racial purity" and trash Germany's economy in the process.

Might help if VW made cars people want to buy...

    real world EVs review

Just about ran out of diesel in San Diego on a Sunday in 1979- CA tax on fuel was high so most over the road truckers bought out of state, local truckers didn't work weekends so the couple stations with diesel were closed. Stayed overnight with a friend and fueled up Monday morn before heading...

    real world EVs review

VW Group's Scout operation was wise to add the option of an on board IC engine to charge their batteries- A small IC engine capable of 100KW can weight less than 100KG and eliminate the need for hundreds of KGs of batteries!

American consumers are increasingly underwater on their car loans

AC units in the south never cease to amaze me- When my mom sold the trailer in Minnesota and moved to southwest Florida year round she had a massive AC unit like we'd use for a medium size commercial building installed behind her trailer. When minor tropical storm flooding killed it, I didn't...

American consumers are increasingly underwater on their car loans

Continuing my fantasy/search for my next car, I've been tempted to pop by the maybe friendly and not so local dealer who actually has a Corvette or Cayman in stock to see if I can still get in and out of the thing. Porsche is of course playing their "allocation" lies, so nearest Cayman is 180...

American consumers are increasingly underwater on their car loans

I live in an 1800 square foot concrete house with 2 feet of dirt for a roof and dirt around 3 sides, it's essentially a bunker. I go on the insurance company's website for a quote and you can see the software calculate a replacement value based on square footage for a replacement stick built...
