Concur that Sutphin is the way to go for the 35d ZF6HP. I think the tune is well worth its while.
Agreed that the xHP tunes aren't worth it, but you'll need the xHP app license to flash the Sutphin tune.
I had DWR back on my 335d and Sutphin on my X5 35d E70, and I found both made a significant...
I've been looking for a solution for this issue (exact same problem - cold air only unless it's on "foot mode"), and this is the first time i've seen a potential solution. I thought I would require replacement of blend doors/tearing apart the dash, so I had given up.
Thanks for the heads up...
I tried the full alphabet soup delete and ran it for a while, but the deleted smell, even with a catted downpipe, was frankly disgusting.
Ended up getting a modified JR tune with EGR and SCR disabled, and the downpipe was reinstalled. I figure that most of the emissions problems evolve around...
I don't use additives when I'm Canada, as the lubricity (mandated B2) is decent here. Every time I drive down into WA and I fuel up with either the 335d or PD, I'll use Power Service White.
Still waiting for it to ship! Andrew Rodriguez posted photos of 'em on pallets today, so they must be coming soon.
It's been tough driving only the PD TDI the last two weeks without my 335d! Quite a downgrade :p
I think my harmonic balancer is dying on my 35d. Burning smell, "charging malfunction" alert, and loss of power steering.
Patiently waiting for the fluidampr to ship and sidelining my car until it's available. Anybody else had the harmonic balancer fail on their 35d, and if so at what mileage?
FYI - for those of you with a 335d/x5d, there's a 650+ member group on Facebook which is named "North American 335D & X5D Owners Group"
I find it's more active than pretty much any of the BMW forums for 35d enthusiasts. Also a bunch of group buys going on at the moment there.
The X5 has the same issues as the 335d. Most likely failure points revolve around the EGR/DPF/SCR, which is why most people recommend the alphabet delete.
I almost got the X5d when I was car shopping, but ended up with the 335d as I didn't need the extra space.
Probably not realistic that the 540d in North America will be the same as the one in the EU, but the specifications look pretty awesome for the EU version:

I'm guessing that they'll probably do the same thing as the 535d...
Yeah, hell of a deal, especially as you're going to go the alphabet delete route.
I paid more than double that for my 2009 335d last August too. My SCR hasn't left me stranded, but I'm going to go the delete+tune route too for peace of mind and a bit of fun.
Nice. I'm thinking of the Stage 2.0 tune with alphabet delete on my 335d.
How do you guys find the smell with the delete though? I'm considering getting a catted downpipe as quite a few posts say that it helps reduce it.
Speaking of SCR failure, has anybody done the alphabet delete along with a tune for their 335d here?
I'm preparing myself for the inevitable EGR/SCR/DPF failure and considering the cost to do the delete+tune.
I don't know if I really want to go back to breathing in particulates in stop-and-go...
I like this quote from somebody in another BMW forum:
The 328d and the 335d are completely different animals.
The 335d is an "OMG I actually get better than 30 mpg driving like an idiot with acceleration that is exciting" kind of car.
The 328d is an "OMG I actually get better than 40 mpg with...
Welcome to the club!
Night and day difference over my TDI...I don't think I could ever go back. The power is addictive.
The 335d has enough oomph at stock though that I don't particularly have a desire to mess with a tune. Malone is local to me and I've tuned both my previous TDIs, but I don't...
