Replaced one of mine during the winter. Took more time to gather tools than to do the deed. 13mm socket (IIRC) and a torque wrench 11 ft-lbs. Pull the boot connectors off and replace. Visually I could not see a problem with the dead GP. I did swap the suspected GP for another and the code...
Mine has been doing the same thing intermittently for a year. VAG-COM says it is a door controller. I have not done anything about it yet, maybe when funds allow. Timing belt and Cam have taken a big bite out of the wallet.
Frank, what is the recommended method for removing the tab on the lower bearing for reversal? Do you try to only grind the tab itself off, or do you end up grinding just a bit of the entire width of the bearing to insure complete tab removal? Any pix of the finished process?
I have been using the Rotella 5W40 in the 7.3PSD for the last 100K. All that truck sees is pulling duty (38' toy hauler) shortly to become the daily driver while the jetta is down. Been using that in the Kubota as well, although last change was Mobil 1 5-40 for diesels.
