    Bad fuel economy=bad injection pump??

If cylinder #2 is misfiring when cold the ECU will attempt to compensate. This will show up in VagCom - I believe it's labelled the 'rough idle adjustment'. If very little adjustment is required then your nozzles are balanced (not necessarily good, just balanced...) Does the car make more...

    Bad fuel economy=bad injection pump??

New nozzles, lots of smoke, poor fuel economy yet pulls very well? Sounds to me like someone's put oversized nozzles in it without adjusting anything and it is now overfueled. Adjust the IQ and see what happens. Rick

    Possibly Parting Out: B4 Passat

Sorry guys ... I've been too busy to answer posts and PM's shopping for a new car and all. I hope to compile a list of who asked for what and when then get back to people this weekend, in order. Answering a few questions asked in this thread: - yes the car is Tornado Red - the rims are nothing...

    RIP Tornado Red B4 :(

Settled with them this morning. The adjusters made a decent offer last week but I held out because I didn't think it was enough. I got another $1000 for my trouble :D ... I also get to keep the rental car (New 06 Nissan Maxima SE, not recommended) for another week on their dime. John - if...

    Possibly Parting Out: B4 Passat

Let the vulturing begin! I haven't settled with the insurance company yet but will likely pay the salvage value to keep the car and then part it out if there's enough interest. If you need specific parts let me know. I've had a few people inquire about the drivetrain as an assembly and will...

    RIP Tornado Red B4 :(

Let the vulturing begin! I haven't settled with the insurance company yet but will likely pay the minimal salvage value to keep the car and then part it out. If you need specific parts let me know. Note that the driver's side E-Code was smashed so if you were looking for a pair you're SOL...

Intake cleaning and Exhaust teardown - 96 Passat

It is a honeycomb. When it's plugged performance is lackluster at best. The turbo can't spool up quickly, nor do you get as much air and therefore fuel into the engine as you should. The increased backpressure means that the turbo has to work a lot harder and the noise level inside the cabin...

Front Strut Mount spinning after replacement

Mine did this for awhile when I first changed them. If you have someone turn the wheel while you watch I think you'll find that they are not spinning in place but that the entire mount assembly pivots from side to side to side as you tun the wheel. A bit of sil-glide or equivalent might help if...

    B4 TDI Downpipe

    1. Yes 2. Where are you located? Replacement downpipes and cats (two-piece) as shown in ETKA are available in Canada but apparently not in the U.S. 3. Can't help here 4. Definately Rick

    Bilstein shocks, HD or TC?

I've got HD's with about 150,000 km on them and they still perform like new. Some may find them too stiff. Dave, what're you driving now that you have a real choice? Rick

Removing exhaust output flange from turbo on B4

I would. With a little ratchet and a short extension it really isn't difficult to do. Rick

Removing exhaust output flange from turbo on B4

It's a bit awkward but doable. Remove the vibration dampener (the square steel block) bolted to the back of the sub-frame first to give yourself more room to work. Spray the flange threads liberally with a good liquid penetrant and wait awhile for it to work before you try to remove the flange...

    Help with Hub removal

When you pull the hub you'll break the bearing so it has to be replaced. There's a special bearing press availble for rent online someplace (old age setting in - I can't recall where anymore but a search on 'wheel bearing press' should find it) that will allow you to pull the bearing without...

    Another A3 bites the dust!

John, sorry to hear about your car but at least you're OK. I can tell you that after spending the past week searching for a new car while there are a fair number of TDI Jettas out there there aren't many good Golfs to choose from, and Jetta TDI wagons with a manual transmission command huge...

    B4 TDI....shakes & vibrates even after V-day! ;)

Did this just start recently and does it just do it at idle? My first guess would be air in the fuel line. Check the fuel return line for a steady stream of bubbles. Rick

    Ebahn Bentlley CD app Problem

I had this happen too when I upgraded computers. Below is what I was told to do. Rick ------------- Hello Rick, Please reboot the PC first. If the error recurs, please try the following: 1. Close all applications that are currently running, and get all the way back to your...

    RIP Tornado Red B4 :(

Nobody was written up, although the truck driver got a bit of a lecture. He was given a break for trying to be a good semaraton in bad conditions and was damn lucky he wasn't run over when he got out of his truck. As for following too close, I was probably a minute and a half behind the truck...

    RIP Tornado Red B4 :(

Thanks guys, no injuries except for the car. In fact, I didn't even hit hard enough to spill the coffee in my cup holder. The guy I hit had stopped in the middle of the highway to see if the driver in another car was OK after hitting the guardrail. He was just getting back into his truck when I...

    RIP Tornado Red B4 :(

Another nicely broken in B4 bit the dust in a white-out this morning :( It's amazing how much damage a raised pick-up truck with a trailer hitch can do at 20 km/h. Time to scour the local market for a suitable replacement, probaby an A4 if I can get two car seats in the back seat. I might...

98 Jetta TDI Rear Axle (Subframe) bent?!?

As others have already suggested shim the rear stub axles. I also had mine done with excellent results. IIRC, VW also issued a TSB back in '97 or '98 regarding the rear end of some cars being out of alignment. I can't recall if this was a problem with Jetta's or Passats but they produced a...
