I guess you can put in a bottle of liqui moly dpf protect every once in a while to keep the dpf clean. not sure if reregen alone would be sufficient to prevent it from clogging up and requiring a replacement...
When new, the color is like olive oil. They darken pretty quickly. It's good to change them out early and often, especially if you do lots of stop-n-go driving. The heat degrades the oil and the degraded oil causes problems for the mechatronics and the clutch.
I like the akebono brake pads. I have them on my A3 and A5 and love the lower dust. The rotors have been worn very evenly and shows very little wear.
I'm still on my original rotors with 76k miles so I haven't looked into new ones. That said, I got AC Delco Professional rotors for my...
Just got all new Continental PureContact LS 225/50/r17 yesterday. A little taller than OEM, but they are very quiet and smooth. Time will tell how long they last, but I've had good luck with Continental and Michelin tires in the past.
Just get any of these:

I got the LiquiMoly Long Life 3. It's their latest and greatest with VW 507 approval. They have a good reputation and the stuff is Made in Germany. It's...
Due to a recently accident, my beloved '01 Golf is no more.
I have the Bentley paper manual that I've used to save me thousands of dollars on maintenance. It has all the pages, with some dirty finger marks, but everything is legible...
Hi,
My MK4 Golf is no more due to a recent accident. I have a set of Mintex MDB2034 brake pads never used. There are no sensors on these.

Hi Everyone,
Just got a new-to-me 2013 Audi A3 8P 2.0 TDI. I can't get rid of a fault code in the instruments module. According to the VCDS wiki, the service reminder valus are probably off.
If you have a similar car, or even a MK6 Golf, would you mind sharing the values you have in your...
Hi Everyone,
My 2001 Golf got smashed by an Audi A5 earlier tonight and it's pretty clear it's completely totaled. RIP. So I started searching the car ads and 2013 Golf TDIs are selling for around 10 - 12K around LA. A good potential replacement. Based on the readings I've done on this board...
I'm experiencing TC lockup mechanical failures after long stop-n-go drives (1 - 2 hrs+) so I figured it's because it's overheating. The transmission shifts perfectly fine in the morning and for short drives.
If it's not the heat, what else could it be?
Summer is coming. Probably another hottest year in history.
So I think my auto tranmission stands a good chance at getting cooked during the 1 - 2 hour+ stop-n-go hell that is the Los Angeles freeway system. The stock transmission cooler is tiny and I'm guessing that's why so many 01M...
Wow! I'm impressed. There's been reports of bad FCM's found on eBay that keeps clutch engaged. Glad you found the cause. Great soldering skills BTW.
A side question: based on your knowledge of how the FCM is wired up, there is a way to install a switch to trigger the fan on manually? I'd...
Aren't the valve covers like $200+ for genuine VW? I've had mine from the factory for almost 190K now and it works fine.
Also, what clips? I have 2001 MY and just took it apart this past weekend to wipe everything down to inspect for damages and there were no clips, just the four screws and...
I just took mine off yesterday to clean and reseal the cover. I also removed the 4 screws of the oil deflector. There were no barillo pads or anything else between it and the valve cover.
I wasn't sure if you'd replaced it when you changed the belt. If it's new, then it's probably. I would still take everything off and double check everything for leaks/bent bolts though.
You really got lucky that you didn't have any cylinder head coverage.
The missing nut is a concern. But it could've also fallen out through a gap in the cover. All you can do take off all the components (rollers/tensioner/studs) and make sure it's not stuck between somewhere you can't easily see.
As for the oil stain, it could be the grease from the roller. If...
