Rather ironic
It's rather ironic I find this thread this morning after having a nice fight starting my 2012 CR this morning.
It has the updated intercooler, still has the problem if the conditions are right, and still has the problem if the conditions are right even if I put on a cold weather...
I have had the updated intercooler and while anecdotes are not data, I have had the icing/no-start/sputter/scary situation happen after.
I am currently fighting VW for a fix or "something". Various mechanics are telling me other than a hole, there is no fix. If I don't get anywhere with...
Need details. :)
What exactly did you add/replace that fixed your icing?
I have the new intercooler and am intermittently experiencing the problem. I have a case open with VW. I'd rather not do their job for them but if I can prevent the problem it's better than fighting with them for a...
Edit 1: VW called back, said will do research and call me back by end of business day Friday. Fingers crossed. They declined my option of finding a fixed TDI to use a loaner so they could troubleshoot, figured as much. :) It was worth a shot. Will edit more when I hear more.
Hopefully...
Edit 1: Going to the dealer today for them to "diagnose" the car. (unless there is a stored code due to the rough start/stalling there are no lights on, and I have not scanned it with my VCDS) Yes I know it will be a goose chase. VWoA regional rep is going to call me back regarding loaner. It...
Covers and new intercooler doesn't necessarily help.
Unfortunately it seems that even with the updated intercooler, and upper and lower covers, it still happens.
Single digits yesterday, drove to work ok, drove home ok, parked in heated garage, this morning tried to start, world war three...
Heh. Thank goodness for the "dieselgate" extended warranty!
Guess they'll owe me a new engine if something catastrophic happens.
From research (and the recent posts here) I did purchase a winter front that I'm going to put on (at least over the intercooler/lower part).

Still freezing/ingesting water with "new/mod" intercooler?
Hi all
So let's say the local dealer put on the "new" intercooler with the flap that allegedly prevents this issue. Some time went by until ....
You ended up having the issue again anyway (hard start/rough running/hard...
I'd buy another TDI (say, a 2014 or 2015) if I could get a deal on one. Let them flood the market. I'll be a customer. With that sweet of a warranty, it can't be beat.
Got $175
Had my fix late September, EFT from VW soon after, got Bosch check for $175 in the mail late last week. Not sure why it was half of $350? ... but I'll take it. :)

Update part 2: took her on vacation
Hi all
Took the 2012 on vacation after the fix for some highway miles.
Here's my impression:
- Sounds more like a diesel. That doesn't bother me.
- DSG is shifting differently. I can defeat that my putting it into manual mode if it selecting what I think...
Update: done, fixed, ready
So, an update ...
Called the dealer at 2:00PM ish local time as I just couldn't wait any longer ...
Service manager happened to answer phone. I inquired about the car and the difficulty they were having earlier. He said it is now done, was being washed, and will...
Good morning
Anyone hearing reports of stealers having flash problems with 2012 models? I took my 2012 in on Monday, promised a call on Tuesday, no call. Called this morning and when I asked if it was done, it of course wasn't.
Pressing the issue I asked if it just "Wasn't touched, or are...
I will even steven swap VW right now for a fixed, loaded, low mile manual transmission 2015 Jetta, along with restitution. :) :) (this would be for my 2012)
<AOL>me too</AOL>
Subscribed. I'd be interested in this also since my 2004 Jetta has "new" glow plugs of the 7V variety, but my computer is putting out 5V. Makes cold starts ... interesting unless I plug the Frostheater in. I'd rather not ship my computer off to my chip tuner for a fix...
Me neither says the AOL'er
I am also not doing the buy back. I will take the $, get the fix, and then get it "unfixed". Even though it has a DSG I am really enjoying the car. I bought it to drive it, not to turn it in. Bought it KNOWING of the scandal, don't care. (I also have a 2004 PD...
Thanks
Thanks all ... guess that answers that question, and explains why I couldn't mind anything. I guess waiting for the foam to settle and filling it up to the filler neck will have to do.
