I5 Through Vancouver Washington B4V white passat

I had to consult a calendar to make sure it wasn't me. But alas, I and my white B4V were on that road on the 17th and 18th of August, not the 14th.

Weeping of coolant hose connections under heat

Actually the coolant flange is only $8.95 + s&h at IDParts.com. Got a "Coolant Hose to Cylinder Head" as well. Here's hoping fixing the symptoms will cure the disease. Thanks for your input, Paramedick and G60ING.

Weeping of coolant hose connections under heat

Hmmm. The Frost Heater slows the flow of coolant through the system, but I doubt it's the problem. The hose clamps I moved or replaced during the installation of the Frost Heater, none of them are leaking. The VW dealer had no clue about G12 vs. G12+; he sold me Part No. G 012 A8FA4, which I...

Weeping of coolant hose connections under heat

Last October I installed a Frost Heater. I drained the G11 coolant, flushed the lines with about 14 gallons of distilled water over a few days (fill, run engine til warm, drain, repeat), then topped it off with G12. After a 500 mile trip recently I found my coolant was low, but I couldn't...

    1996 B4 Passat... where's the thermostat?

The thermostat I removed--quite possibly the original--had the springs on the inside, which appears to be opposite of what is depicted in JungleMan's diagram. Photo courtesy of user lupin..the..3rd's post here.

    1996 B4 Passat... where's the thermostat?

The new thermostat is in, and the temperature gauge now behaves a lot differently. It now goes up to 195°F (90.5°C) and stays there instead of wandering around 120°F (49°C). Which is itself a little bizarre because I put in what I thought was a 180°F (82°C) part. Question: is there a...

    1996 B4 Passat... where's the thermostat?

Alright, guys. Help me replace the thermostat in my B4 by helping me drop the power steering pump. I don't have any experience with this side of the engine compartment, so I'm having a hard time figuring out how the PS pump will swing out. After I removed the two vertical bolts into the block...

Do you trust the fuel pumps

I am also suspicious of the accuracy of the pumps. I filled several identical 5 gallon containers with diesel at two pumps near me. One pump consistently reaches the fill mark and the other is consistently about 4% less (calculated from estimated volume). I thought my data was significant...

    I've got a 96 wagon prospect. but it's black.

I'm sure I could use suspension work on my B4V since it's never been replaced in its 234000 miles, but I hesitate at the expense since I really don't have much complaint with the way it handles now. Perhaps I just don't know any better as the only cars I've only spent much with besides my own...

    I've got a 96 wagon prospect. but it's black.

I have both a '90 Subaru Legacy wagon and B4V. All but a few of the interior and exterior dimensions are nearly identical, and now even the ground clearance and tire size are nearly identical since upgraded the B4 tires to 195-65/15. The Subaru is a great car--it's reliable, practical...

    Newbie B4 Fuel Mileage

I've filled up my B4V three times since I got new 15" wheels/tires and took the time to test the accuracy of my speedometer & odometer: 44.6 mpg, 90% highway miles, 66% of which at 66-69 MPH, 33% at 60 MPH 47.8 mpg, 95% highway miles, 90% between 55 and 60 MPH 45.4 mpg, 95% highway miles, 50%...

Suggestions on what mods I should make to my stock 97 Passat

I'm enjoying my 15" MB Motoring Seven X wheels from Discount Tire, which were $100 off a full set at the time I got them. I put 195-60/15 Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires on them and I really like the combination. It's a circumference increase of 4.4% over stock so it lowers my RPM's on the...

Frostheater, spring clamps or worm style clamps. Which one to use?

Yesterday I struggled for about 20 minutes with various pliers on the spring clamps of my B4. Then I tried the 3/8" hose grip pliers from Harbor Freight, item 37909-3VGA, and they did the job quickly and easily. I'm sure the Astro Pneumatic 9409 tool would be more secure and better in tight...
