Nice install.
I always dreamed of using the coax from the stock radio, and the antenna base with its guts removed. Then mounting a dual band antenna to the base. It is pretty small coax though and isn't 50 ohms so I didn't bother.
VDS-Pro is actually a very powerful tool. It can read/clear fault codes in any module and also program/code them the same as VCDS. In many ways it is more powerful then VCDS but it lacks all of the graphical/logging features that VCDS has. And as I said before it requires a computer with DOS and...
Yes, if the fault was caused by a power or software glitch (quite common) it can be cleared. This requires a tool other then VCDS and is more involved then just clicking a button.
It can do quite a few similar things, but you have to understand it is an old DOS based program that requires a hardware serial port to run. You need an old computer/laptop to run it. If you do some searching on here you can find out more about it.
If you were in BC I'd just clear the fault code in the original module for you.
What is the fault code when the replacement module with index 01 is installed?
Installed another homelink unit into my wife's mkiv golf today, install went smooth into the sunroof motor cover. The same seller(bayer_9999) I got my unit from a few years back still sells them on ebay. He includes a drill/cutting template as well as some basic wiring info and programming...
Its been a long time but I finally had a chance to try this and it worked perfect!
I pondered hex editing the VIN etc to update it but didn't bother as it was working great.
I have posted before how to unlock your CCM after it has been locked by the KVW-100 auto-close window module.
Perhaps someone could ask the author of the software used in this thread if he can make it read/write the entire CCM eeprom.
I think its always recommended to use vagtacho to only read the SKC and then switch to VCDS for the programming. For those that don't have VCDS though I believe its completely fine to use vagtacho for the entire process. You just have to know what you're doing for it to work properly - such as...
I figure it might be easier to just contact some locally who will dump your SKC and reprogram your keys for a reasonable price and have two fully working keys.
Let me know if you're interested :)
Failing that I would get a dremel out and carefully cut around the IMMO tube.
Another option may be to mount the controller from a bluetooth keyboard directly into the wheel itself. Have the buttons on the wheel physically connected to the keyboard inputs you want. Being its wireless the only connection needed would be power, which the wheel will already have.
Unless you get some newer version of VagTacho (as in the real thing) I think the only way you'll discover the PIN is to open it up and read the eeprom manually.
I would try making some removal tools and spend an hour moving them around (gently) - I bet you'll be able to get the radio out. The clips can get messed up but by shifting/wiggling the radio a little you can often get the tough ones to release. The clips are pretty close to the face of the...
