Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

Agree with you completely. I never take one source as the gospel - I use a combination of online valuation tools, the enthusiast community, and of course comps based upon location. That example in Costa Mesa is probably a fairly representative estimate for a post-scandal sale.

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

Donald, I appreciate our friendly discourse. Where I think our disconnect is that you don't see the value difference between a TDI Cup Edition and a regular TDI. However, the valuation tools at our disposal DO see a value difference. Take a look: While the actual values are much lower now...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

My TDI Cup Edition is a one-year only car, one of only 1501 made, in the most desirable color. I don't know about your area but they are quite a rare sighting in the Pacific Northwest. When I listed it I had the lowest asking price for a Cup Edition on all of Autotrader, dealer or private...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

Disagree - I drive almost exclusively high-performance and/or rare variant cars, and many times values are difficult to discern. It takes time to find the right buyer that appreciates the rare options, special editions, and factory performance variants. I typically budget a few months to...

Would you still want to get rid of your TDI had dieselgate never happened?

Same here. I still have the KBB printout from August when I listed my car for sale, and just checked it today - the value has dropped around $3000 since the news broke. I was selling it for what I owed, and now I'm magically underwater. I have continued to list it on CL but there isn't much...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

Same here. I listed my Jetta for sale here on August 20th, weeks before any of the news broke. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=446221 Been sitting on it since. I bought my replacement car in June and had hoped I could unload the Cup Ed at a break-even price. It was pretty...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

I wouldn't consider it a "loss of investment", as cars are rarely investments. It's more akin to a "diminished value" compensation that is quite common with automobile accidents. If your car is hit in an accident, the insurance for party who hit you is obligated to make you "whole" again -...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

I sympathize and feel your pain. I listed mine for sale back in August, had a few interested buyers but they all dried up when the scandal broke. I am really looking forward to a resolution at this point, whatever it may be, so I can finally move on.

Why did you buy your TDI?

MPG was the main reason I chose my Cup Edition over other alternatives. I came from a Saab 9-3 Turbo X SportCombi, which was a great combination of power, fun, and practicality. However I changed jobs and went from carpooling to having to drive myself ~100mi round trip each day in stop and go...

FS: 2010 TDI Cup Edition DSG 71k (WA)

Responded to PMs, adding more info: I am the second owner. The car now has 73,000 miles and counting. It is still my daily driver. The car has a clean Autocheck vehicle history report that I am happy to share with any prospective buyer. This car's Autocheck score is 89, better than similar...

Volkswagen's Clean Air Act violations on 2009+ TDIs spark huge recall, investigations

I'm in a similar position as you, bought my Cup Edition in late 2013 for ~19,000 with low miles. I put it up for sale a few weeks before this emissions stuff hit :-/ Now I'm not quite sure what to do.

Dieselgate: How much of a Performace/MPG hit are you willing to take?

Dieselgate: How much of a Performance/MPG hit are you willing to take? I was having this discussion with a fellow gearhead and I thought I'd poll the resident community - with the supposition that some software/hardware/etc recall may affect the performance and/or MPG of your TDI, how much of a...

For #5, are there any restrictions placed on selling these cars as-is? I have heard that in some states like California, it is illegal to sell a vehicle that does not pass emissions.

FS: 2010 TDI Cup Edition DSG 71k (WA)

[SOLD] FS: 2010 TDI Cup Edition DSG 71k (WA) All, Regrettably I am letting go my 2010 TDI Cup Edition. Took me forever to find this one, but my work situation has changed and I no longer have need for a mega-MPG machine like this. Coming up on 80k DSG service which will be performed before...

Does anybody know the REAL DSG torque limit?

I'm interested in this as well. I am looking to get a tune without having to also do a DSG tune - dropping a total of $1k for a stage 1 software tune isn't attractive to me (which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet)

    2010 Jetta Tdi Cup Edition

Hey all, just picked up my Cup Edition last week. It's Candy White without the Thunderbunny kit, 39k miles, DSG, Sunroof, no nav. I'm wondering if anyone recognizes this car? It appears to have been enthusiast owned and slightly modified. This being my first MKV I have asked for help...

New to TDIClub? Introduce yourself here!

Diesel and VW noob here, just picked up a 2010 Jetta TDI Cup Edition last Friday. 39k miles DSG for my 110 mile round-trip daily commute  Long-time car enthusiast, I do all my own work. I also own a 400whp+ Saab 900 Turbo convertible and a '88 e30 M3. My previous daily driver was...
