    Towing/Trailer Brake Relay

Good to know, so if I ever install a P2 on my Touareg it should be pretty straightforward.

    Towing/Trailer Brake Relay

Certain model year Touaregs need a relay to switch the brake input to the controller. Something to do with there being a nonzero voltage on the brake input wire even when your foot is off the brake.

    Towing/Trailer Brake Relay

It definitely sounds like a fuse or wiring problem. Can you test for 12V and ground continuity at the connector way up in the dashboard? You might consider a day pass on erWin to get the wiring diagrams.

    Chicagoland Area

Yes they do. Now that its warming up the beer garden will be in full swing. You should see downtown now. Even since I started hanging out in LaGrange during high school (01-05) the place has changed. The IHOP across from the movie theater was taken down and they put in a senior living center...

Touareg Rear Hatch Operation - hate it

My 2014 Lux lets me do it. I think there's an option in the RNS-850 somewhere to lock or unlock the rear hatch independently. See if hitting the unlock button once or twice prior to trying to open works.

    TDI's in Illinois

I was filling up the company car this morning at the Speedway on Ogden in Brookfield. Saw a silver A4 filling up, plate started "HYC". Any takers?

How to block your front grill with pipe insulation

Does anyone know how blocking off the front affects a regen on the CR's? I'm considering blocking off the front with foam, but I don't want to cause the under-hood temp to go too high during a regen. I know the radiator fans will turn on to move air under the hood. Blocking the front would seem...

    EU vs NA emissions system?

European emissions tend to be more based on reducing CO2, whereas North American emissions are based on reducing NOx. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2

DSG Now Limited to TDI & Hybrid Only?

I rented a '11 Jetta SE for work. I was surprised by the responsiveness of the 2.5 and slushbox. I've rented cars twice a week for a few months and my top three were the Jetta, a Mazda 3 hatchback, and a new Chevy cruze. I'd really like to compare the 2.5 to the 2.0T with DSG. Sent from my...

    Cold Weather Trouble

AdBlue is designed to freeze. Below 12F is freezes. The 32.5% solution is designed such that the Urea and Water freeze at the same rate. When you start the car a heater in the tank will turn on to melt the solution.

    AdBlue consumption

All VW needs is a spill try around the filler nozzle. Use a tube to drain any spills under the car. When I was in college I was on the SAE Baja team. We designed and built a baja buggy and competed against other colleges. One of the rules required a spill containment tray around the fuel tank...

    AdBlue consumption

I haven't taken a good look at the urea tank area in a Passat, but is there any sort of containment and drain around the tank filler that will allow spilled AdBlue to drain out under the car? I know the bulk system and the bottles are supposed to be spill proof, but clearly it isn't fool proof.

Support/Lift Equipment, What Do You Use?

Yes. Its directly related to the compressive strength of the concrete. 5 Bag is roughly equivalent to 2,500PSI, 4 bag would be about 2,000.

Support/Lift Equipment, What Do You Use?

You can drill a core sample and have it lab tested to determine the strength. However, most concrete should exceed their requirements, especially for an outdoor garage use. They call for 2500psi concrete that is 4" thick. You can check the thickness by drilling a small hole and checking like...

Not warming glow plugs enough = tricky starting

The glow plugs reach temp in two seconds. GP light usually stays on for 5-7 seconds. The plugs will "post-heat" after the engine has been started and run until the coolant temp warms up somewhat.

Not warming glow plugs enough = tricky starting

Waiting for the glow plug light to turn off will become second nature...then you'll find yourself waiting for all of the lights to go out on the cluster in whatever car you get into.

High cetane diesel outside of Indy

The station in Lebanon is tiny, and I think they close early, but keep their pumps on for credit card transactions...I filled up around 830 at night. What station are you hitting up in Elkhart? I know of a BP in Lomira that sells higher cetane. Also, some fleet and farms sell Koch Gold, which...
