Both the Thule (this is probably what the VW is, anyway) and the Yakima are excellent. I might make the choice based on the nearest dealer, price, and/or accessories. I have sold/installed both. The Yakima is a US company.

I assume that if AMSOIL were going to develop their own drop in filter that it would be superior. Otherwise why do it?

OK, after all is said and done, let me pose this simple question: In a year, I drive 15,000 miles of mostly commuting, rest short trips. Easy on the foot. If I go with the "best", AMSOIL 3000 oil, stock VW drop in filter (are there others?), should I go with one oil change/year?

My car parts shop recommended Trico above Bosch and I am using the Trico winter blades with excellent results so far.

My driving is mostly fairly uncongested freeway, 42 miles/day. I am Upsoluted but drive pretty passively most of the time. So you think I could do 15k intervals, eh. Are there aftermarket oil filter elements that would give me any better filtering? Guess that long an interval is just scary :-)

Ric, Are you saying that I could easily go with a single oil change each year with 15000 mile intervals? Without bypass filters, etc? If that's a real option, then I would opt for the superior Amsoil I think for the extra protection.

I change oil every 6 months (7500 miles) and am wondering if it's worth going to Amsoil instead of Delvac 1. Opinions appreciated.

We pay so much attention to putting the best oil in our TDI, and I am wondering if I should be paying the same attention to the transmission oil? Should I change out the stock for something superior? If so, what?

The air filter has been a properly installed K&N since the de-screening. The dealer has agreed to replace it (no hassle), saying that this is not the first MAF to fail. Thanks for your help.

My dealer diagnosed my check engine light as a failed MAF sensor. The dealer doesn't know that I removed the screens. How should I handle it? Would the EGR buster eliminate this problem? Thanks. Peter

Am about half way throught my first tank with the Mobil Premium diesel and, so far, it has outperformed the Amoco Premier I had been using. My car is quieter, smoother, and appears to be getting slightly better mpg. I filled up at the Mobil station at Silver Spring and 45 in Milwaukee.
