    Mini GTG/mod day with Matt-98AHU

I'll try to make it sometime during the day so I can meet people. The clutch I ordered still hasn't arrived (ordered from Boraparts.com), so I've emailed Matt and let him know. Hopefully he can fit me in at the next GTG.

    MD State Inspection...

If you need more time to get the car repaired, you can just call the MVA to get an extension. I did that like three times, for almost a year, on my old 300D before I got it inspected. I'm not sure if there's a limit, but if your car fails the inspection, that's the way to go! They give you...

for sale 2004 gls tdi alabama

Why do you need a water pump? Was it not replaced at the last timing belt change? I think your problem is lack of information. Given that you haven't provided a history for the car, and what you have or haven't done with it, people knowledgeable about BEW PD engined cars won't make an offer...

    Brakes, AGAIN! AHHHHH!

Try touching the rims after driving for a bit. I had one caliper sticking, and that particular rim was hot to the touch, while the other ones were still cool/warm. There was definitely a noticeable temperature difference.

    Where to get Extended Warranty?

5 years / 60,000 miles for powertrain. Why do you think you'll need a warranty? If you have money to burn, just put the money into a savings account and wait to use it. You probably won't ever recover the cost of a warranty.

Timing belt change: VW-specific mechanic only?

The price he quoted you sounds on the low side. Consider the cost of the parts alone: $333 http://www.dieselgeek.com/servlet/Detail?no=349 The parts listed above upgrade the timing belt system to 100,000 mile intervals. The mechanic may not upgrade the system to the better parts. You should...

Should I be worried? took my TDI to the Dealer...

What about the roller? TTY Bolts? Do you have a parts list you can post? You can take the top timing belt cover off and check the tensioner to see if the needle is aligned in the window. Other than that, I think it's anyone's guess whether they torqued everything down correctly, or whether they...

Mobil 1 Discussion over on BITOG

After reading some of that thread, it seems Art_Vandelay is quite the douche. A bit condescending too.

Should I be worried? took my TDI to the Dealer...

I waited until 100k miles to change my belt and everything looked good when I replaced all the parts. You probably could have just waited until you got back. If it states you need to inspect it at 80k, why didn't you just have the dealer inspect it instead of replacing everything?

03 TDI Golf for parts in PA

What exactly is wrong with the engine? Have they told you yet? You might want to get it towed some place else and have your options reevaluated. Even if you spend some extra money to have it check out somewhere else, it'll save you a LOT if their diagnosis of the extent of the damage was...

    hand held code reader

VCDS will only work with Windows, or some type of Windows emulation/virtualization. You can get it to run on the Mac with Parallels and VMWare running windows, or Boot Camp and Windows. Whatever you do, you probably will need a copy of Windows to get it to work. I bought a cheapie netbook...

04 Jetta Wagen: Buy or not to buy?

I think the oil used is irrelevant, especially if you are going to check the cam anyway. Even with the correct oil, people have had problems. Why was the timing belt replaced so early? It has a 100,000 mile change interval. I would verify that ALL the parts were replaced correctly for that...
