How are you going to do this if you have a loan on the car? Your loan is going to have to be paid off in order to be able to gift it to your wife. If you are going to be getting another loan in your wife's name to payoff your first loan, she will be buying the car for the amount of your loan...
I really don't see an alternative if you don't have the money initially to buy out your lease. It obviously is going to cost you double tax, title and registration fees. I would hate giving up the extra money for it but if it nets you more than a lease buyout then you're still ahead.

I know in Florida that you can transfer title only without registration. There is a box that is checked on the Title Transfer Form acknowledging that the vehicle will not be driven on public roads.
