FS: 2001 Golf GLS TDI 5M (Los Angeles area)

SOLD I'm selling my 2001 Golf TDI GLS with 185k miles. I'm the original owner. - ALH engine - Black paint/black cloth interior - 5 speed manual - Power moonroof - 15" alloys - Consistently gets 45 mpg during 80-85 mpg road trips. Gets closer to 50 mpg if I slow down. It got 62 mpg during...

Central California TDI service available--can travel to you!"

I'm throwing in another recommendation for Matt's work. I just went up to his place this weekend and had him do a complete suspension refresh... new shocks/struts, new bushings all around (including the rear axle bushing which was a COMPLETE PITA, kudos to Matt for getting it done). He has the...

Feeler for SoCal July 15 and 16 2011 Wrenching GTG

I'm a maybe, unless something else pops up that weekend. I don't need any work done (thanks, Matt!) right now, but I'll come hang out and talk diesels. Anywhere between SD and LA is fine by me.

Bigger nozzles are BOOL**** with orignal componets!

Just a note guys: before you start doing calculations based on the flow equation, realize that that's a steady state equation. The system we're looking at has a sharp pressure increase and drop with time constants sometimes less than a millisecond, a nonlinear pressure/orifice relationship (the...

Bigger nozzles are BOOL**** with orignal componets!

lol... great minds eh. I ran those dyno tests and paid for them myself in exchange for the pp520 nozzles. I made this deal with kerma before I even had performed the dyno tests, so there was no tit-for-tat there. I'm as disinterested as you can get.

Bigger nozzles are BOOL**** with orignal componets!

You are wrong. This was hashed out literally years ago. The pump sends a pressure wave down the fuel line, not a set amount of fuel. Bigger nozzles = more fuel through the nozzles. 2001 stock ALH engine, 10mm pump, blue is stock nozzles, green is powerplus 357s, red is powerplus 520s.

Beware of BioDiesel (B5) in Marina del Rey, CA!

That's too bad. I stopped fueling there when they switched to B5... I've been getting my B99 at the Brentwood station since then. I've been tempted in the past to fill up in MDR just because I didn't want to have to deal with westside traffic, but I'm now glad that I never did that.

need to find repair person in L.A.

need to find repair person in L.A.

A second recommendation for Euro-Tech. They put a VR6 clutch in my Golf a few years back. Decent price, friendly people and good work.

Biodiesel pump CLOSED in Marina Del Rey?!

Alert! I went by here today and while the pumps looked open, they now say: BIODIESEL (B5) B5? ***?!?! So I drove up to Brentwood and payed $3.799 for B99. This sucks. I was hoping MDR would start selling again because it's much closer to home than Brentwood (and less of a PITA to get to)...

Biodiesel pump CLOSED in Marina Del Rey?!

As of this evening, some of the pumps at ConservFuel were out of order, but not all of them. I filled up with bio along with an old Ford HD pickup and an old Benz.

Biodiesel pump CLOSED in Marina Del Rey?!

Poop. I asked the guy at the station in MDR what the deal was and he said something about a problem with the pumps, and that it should be fixed in a week or so (this was weekend before last). So does not complying with the variance requirements mean that they weren't asking for proof of...

    SF-Bay Area Clutch Install 11/17/07

There's a dude who sits on a paint bucket behind the Ralph's down the street who says that he can do a suspension swap for $40 plus a 40 of Mickey's. He had some nice milk crates that he said serve as his lift, but asked that I help him use the spare tire jack to get them up there. Is this a...

Seriously modified hummer gets 60 mpg on bio

This is another pop-science piece that gets the efficiency numbers all wrong. They just reprinted what this malook says. The 60 mpg claim is probably for his "biodiesel-hydrogen" hybrid. Claiming 60 mpg for biodiesel in this case is retarded. What about the hydrogen? Does it grow on trees...

L.A. / Ventura County TDI Club People

I seem to remember that there was another fire in Eastern OC (Cleveland forest perhaps?) There was certainly ash in the air... that pic looks like it was taken at dusk, but it was probably taken right after lunchtime. There was certainly a creepy orange glow all day. I think that's me...

    Biodiesel in the 2008 VWs

Hey Pete, since you have posted several snippets from that VWAG paper (the one stating that decreased fuel economy or filter plugging could be a problem) could you post a reference? Is it an SAE paper? You did, after all, ask us all to read more :D btw, I haven't read this forum as...
