Sold my TDI - This is why......

We had 2 TDI's, my Golf 2001, and her 2002 Beetle. The Golf was way, way better than the Beetle. It was the Beetle that leaked and had the plague of electrical issues. By 2003, I think they had fixed some of the problems, like the power windows falling into the doors, MAF sensors, the ABS...

Sold my TDI - This is why......

Honestly, the dealer wasn't bad. Sunnyvale VW has a good service department. I wouldn't take a whiz in Bob Lewis service department. The problems we had were far ranging and VW parts network can seriously suck sometimes. My Golf had a screwed up headliner from the factory. There was glue...

Sold my TDI - This is why......

We owned two TDI's at one point, my 01 Golf and my wife had a 02 Beetle. Mine was a 5 speed, hers an auto. I like the engine a whole lot and got 43 mph in the 5spd Golf all the time, no matter how I drove it. What got me was two things, I just wasn't happy with the car and it had a lot of...

02 TDI New Beetle, 94R or 48 Battery?

Duralast 48-L. Mission accomplished. What a frikkin' pain in the arse. I swear, the Beetle is the hardest car on earth to work on. One of these days, I'm going to need to go after the snow screen. Thanks to this guy's web page, I didn't have a big problem, other than dropping the hold down...

02 TDI New Beetle, 94R or 48 Battery?

I can't seem to figure out what battery for a 02 New Beetle TDI, a group 48 or a group 94R? It seems like the 94R has the right power and similar size to the 48. Most of the catalogs list the 48 for all TDI's, but a lot of threads here indicate the 94R is the one to get for the additional AH to...

SF Bay Area - Battery for 02 TDI Beetle?

Noticed my wife's Beetle TDI is starting slower, so I checked out the battery. Found the negative post covered with "fur" (corrosion). Cleaned it off to find the top case of the battery is cracked around the negative post. So, two questions: What battery and where to get a deal in the south...

    DRL's out on 02 Beetle

Thanks, I can hear the relay click with the brake handle. Must be the switch. Anyone got a label for the fuse box, as mine seems to be missing from the factory. I've never had cause to open the fuse box on my wife's car until now and well, it's useless without a diagram.

    DRL's out on 02 Beetle

Ok. Anyone got a fuse label? It would be nice to have one in there, someday.

    DRL's out on 02 Beetle

Was driving my wife's 02 TDI Beetle and discovered the day time running lights are out. Headlights work normally and I can hear the relay click when the hand brake is released. I took a look in the fusebox, but the label is MISSING! So I have two questions: Any thoughts on troubleshooting the...

Water leak in rear of 2002 Beetle, sunroof drains?

I used low pressure from an air compressor to blow the front drains clear. Now I can pour a whole cup of water in the drain at the sunroof and watch it puddle on the garage floor behind the front wheel wells. Never did find the bottom end of the drain, assume it is behind the well liners...

    Beetle sunroof forward drains?

The front drain tubes on the sunroof of my wife's 02 Beetle TDI seem to be clogged. Anyone know how to get to the opening on the body where they are supposed to drain? I looked and didn't see where they come out.

Water leak in rear of 2002 Beetle, sunroof drains?

My wife's 02 Beetle has developed a water leak in the back somewhere. It's damp in the trunk and under around the right rear seat. I can also see where water has been dribbling down the rear windows on the inside. Can't seem to find the source of the leak, but I suspect either the window...

    New California Chit Chat post!

Hey y'all. Good to see Peter and some of the other familiar names and faces around. Nuke is still here. Hanging out in Campbell. My wife still has her TDI Beetle. It's about time for an oil change. Anyone know where to get some Delvac 1, or whatever oil is in favor these days? My 'vette is...

Chit-Chat topic for SFBA members .....and not only

[ QUOTE ] peter pyce said: Hey, Larry, glad to hear from you! How is the Corvette doing? As for the Bug, if you place the jack in the front (behind the front wheel) and lift the car little bit higher, the rear will come up too. At least mine is like this and it is stock....... [/ QUOTE ]...

Chit-Chat topic for SFBA members .....and not only

Hey y'all, nuke is still around! I'm getting ready to do the 10K service on Dorie's TDI Beetle. We're now engaged, so I guess I'll be doing 10K services for a long while now. Anyone know where to put the jackstands safely so I can rotate the tires? I'm on the same bat-channel, e-me at...

Safe lift + jackstand points on New Beetle?

I'm about to do the 10K service on Dorie's Beetle. The 10K interval says to rotate tires, I have a floor jack and jack stands and I know where the notches are for the jack. Once it is lifted, where is the safest point to set the jackstand so that I can lift the other wheel to be rotated? Anyone...

VWAG Announces their New 2.0 Liter 4-Valve TDI with 161 HP

The answer is a flat out, "no." No way, nada, forget it. The only way a California resident can purchase a new (defined as having 7500 miles or less on the odometer) from outside the state is if the original certification from the vehicle manufacture includes California emmissions. The...

    SUV Addendum (No Fighting, Please)

NOx is what makes the brown crap that floats over our cities. I've seen the same brown cloud hanging over London and other cities in Europe. You can whine "yeah but" all you want, but NOx *IS* a serious pollutant. Your TDI exceeds the output for any gasoline powered car or light truck or...

    SUV Addendum (No Fighting, Please)

You know, if someone pulled that on me, there'd be a knuckle sandwich in it for him. I have news for you self-righeous twits: Your TDI does indeed pollute MORE than most of the SUV's on the road today. You can say "yeah but" all you freakin' want to, but the reality (as evidenced by the EPA...
