    Rocker panel replacement?

If it’s the same video I watched, with the silver sedan, you probably wondered why he was bothering. Yeah it seems like a huge job and I think I’ll ask around for pricing.

    Rocker panel replacement?

Is there anyone out there selling rocker panel replacements for these cars? I just dug a few pounds of dirt out of one of my cars and found holes in the rockers that I can fit my whole hand into. I’d like to keep the car around for awhile, I jjust replaced the front suspension and am getting a...

    Someone check me here

99.5, 5sp manual, 315k miles thought I lost the turbo this morning but I’m only holding 3-4 pounds of boost at the gauge so I checked the actuator and it doesn’t hold a vacuum. No need to investigate further, right?

    Back seatbelt issue

This is the second car that’s done this and honestly I don’t remember how i dealt with it. I seem to remember sticking something down in there to free it up but who knows.

Popping noise in front...everything is new

I had a similar thing where the strut bearings were too tight. Apparently I torqued the crap out of them when I replaced the struts. Fit a new set, no more noise.

    Back seatbelt issue

So the middle seat in the back has the seat belt that is ratcheting tighter every time I put the seat down. It’s now so tight I can’t get my fingers under it. has there ever been a fix for this?

    Alternator Removal

Take the fan off, just three screws, drop the ac compressor down, remove alternator. Before you put the new one in, the inboard ear has a threaded bushing. Put a socket over that from the outside and probably some spacers and then insert a bolt to pull that threaded insert out a little bit (it’s...

    So… Bosch or Valeo?

RIP Idler pulley and serpentine belt + question

250 miles without an alternator is mind blowing. I tried the same thing a few years ago (pulled all the fuses I could) when I lost my belt and I made it about ninety miles. If that.

    Talk to me about starters

Seems like I’m going through starters like every other year or two and I’m getting frustrated. Last one was two winters ago and I bump started the car at a gas station and then drove directly to a NAPA where they gave me another one and then went home and swapped it out. The one they gave me had...

    Noisy timing belt?

Has a SMF, I checked the gearbox oil. I'll try to get a video. How do I post a video?

    Noisy timing belt?

Okay this is going to be difficult for me to describe but I did the TB on my 99.5 about 20k miles ago. It has developed a noise I can only describe as something that sounds like something I heard on a minivan in my neighborhood that sounded like a bad transmission or maybe a loud power steering...

    Transmission slip??

It’s an automatic. They’re not known for their reliability. That being said, low on fluid, blocked valves, worn plates.

Timing belt snapped due to glow plug tip falling in?

That’s horrifying. My glow plugs have been in so long I’m afraid to check them.

    Had it with the ABS.

I'm not averse to ditching the ABS but it sounds pretty complicated to get rid of. I'm also not sure of what proportioning valve to use or how to set it up.

    TB questions

Ah, got it. Thanks. Subsequent questions: What’s the DPF thing all about and where is it, And what locking tools are specific to this engine?

    TB questions

I have someone with a 2015 Golf and they're asking if I can do their timing belt (at 75k). I would love to help out, but I've never done one on one of these, but I've done more than a few ALH's. My questions are: What engine does this have (CRUA I think)? Do I need any tools specific to this...

What makes the most noise on TB side?

Ugh. Is it possible the IP is failing? Is there a telltale noise they make? I had to lock the IP when I took the belt off so I couldn’t do much with it.

What makes the most noise on TB side?

I have one. Used it with the car running, with it off, with the timing belt off and turning things by hand, I don’t know what else I can do. I listened with ear goggles on to dampen all the higher pitched sounds, I was under the car, I had my son move the rpm’s up and down, I cannot find the...

What makes the most noise on TB side?

No. As far as I can tell everything associated with the timing belt is fine. Maybe I’ll just let it develop, the car owes me nothing.
