Another Mk4 ALH steering rack replacement thread....

Hi all. Well, its apparently time to replace my steering rack. I guess at 380,000 miles, it has had enough. I read up a bit in several threads about the process, and know its easiest to drop the cradle, but the one thing I cant seem to sort out is when it comes to reinstalling it. Does it...

In cowl ambient temp sensor, where to buy????

That’s actually not the sensor we’re talking about. I believe that one goes in the lower bumper cover for the inside display.

In cowl ambient temp sensor, where to buy????

Thanks for all the replies! I got it sorted out I think, but the fans are working normally now anyway, so until it warms up, I won’t know how the ac fairs, but I believe it will be ok now. What did I do? No idea, other than fooling around with that cowl sensor, but didn’t replace it. It...

In cowl ambient temp sensor, where to buy????

Oh, poke all the fun you want. Sometimes I think I’m working on it more than she drives it! Checked and rechecked the fuses. Foam was gone, but I repaired it doors. I believe it is the control valve issue, but since the cars PO had spliced some wiring to the compressor, and it had been...

In cowl ambient temp sensor, where to buy????

Hi all. Working on my daughters car (2000 Beetle) AGAIN. Wrong time of the year for AC work, but it needed done since I had the front apart for a radiator support replacement anyway. Im trying to figure out either how to test the temp sensor and its plug in the cowl by the windshield, or...

FOUND! WTB: 17” steelies maybe 16” 5x112 North Central Indiana

Hi all looking for a set of, preferably, 17” steelies for winters on a 2012 Beetle. Honestly, I’d take any 17x7 that would fit, aluminum or steel, if they are cheap enough. But that’s the trouble, I need cheap. Trying to outfit my Mom’s car with winters for her. Anyone have a great deal on a set?

    Immobilizer repair or delete?

Ok, so not a cluster solder joint issue. I appreciate those who answered the question I asked about where I can send it vs cost, the info is much appreciated. I did search, but so much turns up, and so many threads are older, in addition to the fact that things change over time as to...

    Immobilizer repair or delete?

It could be. Its been a while since I looked. But if its gonna sit, I might as well pull the cluster and check the solder joints I guess, just in case. If your antenna is good (sounds like it is if it doesnt flash with a chipped key), it wont flash, and if mine were good, I wouldnt need the...

    Immobilizer repair or delete?

Hi all. So it finally happened. 2002 ALH Jetta Wagon. 359,000 miles give or take. Id had intermittent issues over the last two years where it would start and immediately die, then the flashing immo light. Usually, the next time or two it would be fine. Last time it wouldnt recover...

    Alignment issue, rear bushings?

Hi all. Been a while! 02 TDI Wagon, 5 speed. So, I just put new tires on the car, and noticed my steering wheel was cocked to the right a bit. Now, we had a heck of a bad Winter as far as potholes go, so no surprise there. Took it to get it aligned, and had a bad tie rod end. Not sure...

Rear brake caliper replacement...38mm vs 41mm

Correct for factory new cars, but TRW doesnt make a 41mm caliper that is sold in the US. They do make one, but its not sold here. To get the 41mm, Ill have to rebuild mine, which I will do, but in the mean time, the 38s will have to do. Seems since I cant find anything one way or the...

Rear brake caliper replacement...38mm vs 41mm

Both rears are the same bore diameter, 38mm, so even if it would create a pull to one side, which it seems it does from another post I found, it wont in my case, because there is no difference side to side.

Rear brake caliper replacement...38mm vs 41mm

So, near as I can tell, from searching different variations of caliper piston size vs brake force, its seems that there will be a difference in braking performance in the rear from the difference in piston size. What isnt clear is which way it goes. Ive read some that say smaller piston vs...

Rear brake caliper replacement...38mm vs 41mm

ALH TDI Rear brake caliper replacement...38mm vs 41mm Hi all. So Ive had a stuck caliper for a while now on my 02 Wagon, and am finally getting around to repairing (replacing) it. Trouble is, the factory caliper has a 41mm bore, and the TRW replacements have a 38mm bore. Is this going to be...

    VCDS VAG-COM Locator

Because quite a few of us that own them dont appreciate having our info public. Id venture a guess that better than 75% arent doing this for money, and as such, have zero interest in being called for help or texted, or anything else if we didnt choose to do so. You think thats not a privacy...

    Indianapolis TDI'ers UNITE!

Yeah, its been a while hasnt it? I rarely post in here, but always read the posts when they pop up. I know where that is. Drive by there all the time. I relocated last year about this time, and while I might do it again, its got to be the worst thing ever. Heck, Ive meant to post on...
