If your fuel cap was not on right the engine light will come on. You have to be sure to turn it several clicks. The dealer made a big issue of this when my car was new so I wouldn't have this happen as it cost about sixty bucks to have it reset.
I'm replying to James concern of August '99.
At that time there were no replies but theres a lot more NJ's and NB's out there now. I have what i think is this same noise. Sort of a plastic ticking sound. Seem like it's from the center vents or possibly the air bag area. Comes and goes. Goes when...
Ahhh don't you love this time of year? Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Fragrant pine in the home and the unmistakable smell of diesel in the driveway on these blustery mornings. I enjoy starting the 2000 Jetta in the winter. The colder the better and I keep it outdoors. The dashboard is lit...
I've had my 2000 Silver Arrow Jetta TDI for a year as of November 22nd. I have 22,000 miles on it. It has been wonderful in all respects. My 22,000 miles speaks of that as I only drive 5 miles to work. I still get compliments on it weekly and it's straight out of the box--no need to add stuff to...
I tried to search for this but need a quick response. I have a 2000 Jetta and a minor clicking noise has developed. It seems to come from the center air vents or dash area. A click like plastic. You would expect it from maybe the cupholders or something of that sort. But its not that. No junk in...
What\'s the Best Route?
What is the best route to take for a new member or someone just visiting this site that has either bought a TDI or is concidering it? I'm concerned that they might go down the wrong thread and second guess their original enthusiasm. I think maybe that they should be...
Victoria--I'm going to ditto JeffT-SteveS and STrack above.

I've bought VW's for years and have had mostly dealer service. Follow the guidelines in the manual and feel good about it. I think they do care and they have always treated me right and fairly. I live 50...
It's intriguing alright. (29?) Palms California sound interesting to me at this point. I topped off at 720 miles after the fuel light came on. Did some of the venting.
Filled with Amoco but don't know the Cetane. Came out to just over 50 MPG which is probably about right. If you measure a half...
Thanks for the information. I'll keep looking for the right stuff now that I'm back home. I just didn't want to miss out on a deal as I traveled.

I'm on a roadtrip right now and I ran across a Mobil distributer. They have in stock Delvac but it is Mobil Delvac 1330 or 1540. This is not what we want, right? Different than the Delvac 1 5-40 is it not? They didn't have any brochure and the clerk wasn't too reassuring as to what it was. This...
Well this is a great test run. It is 9 degrees here in Northern Pa this A.M. Chill factor well below zero. I couldn't wait to see how the car would do. After chipping it out of the ice I turned the key. The glowplug indicator was on for about 12 seconds or so and I gave it a shot. The engine...
Well, here's what I've been waiting for. My first road trip in my 2000 Jetta/Silver Arrow/GlS. I've got 1900 miles on it. Topped it off yesterday in preparation. First time since New Years Eve. Took 8.5 gal for about 450 miles. Do the math. Around 55 MPG. Going to go in to a colder climate in...
Get well soon TDI Brother Steve. We drive the same ride. Jetta/2000/Silver/GLS (not
the Chrysler thank goodness!) 5sp. 1500 miles
and loving it after 1 month yesterday. I'm looking foward to my first road trip to Pennsylvania in a couple of weeks. I need to go somewhere in this great vehicle...
According to this site we are over 1100 strong at this point. To put this in perspective do we have any numbers on TDI's that are out there (by country) I'm wondering how many TDI owners just buy 'em , drive 'em, have them maintained and enjoy them vs folks like us that are enthusiasts and are...
Once you pick out the right body style and the right option package there is nothing else to shop for. My '00 Jetta/TDI/GLS is all I want it to be right out of the box! So if you like to shop for accessories at Auto Zone or anywhere else you might want to get a toyota or chevy cavalier or one of...
JeffT -- I really like the sound of your suggestion. NO additives necessary if your buying from the right station. As a new owner I wouldn't mind having a bottle of additive just in case but to have to buy a "case" doesn't really sit well. Pouring stuff in the tank etc to keep it going seems...
I bought a Golf made in the Westmoreland plant as well. It's a gasser '86 and now has 282'000 miles on it giver or take a K. It's been a great car. So great that I bought another (almost) just like it in '96 in the form of the GTI (also Gas) Same color and all. White/black interior. I was...
I'm going to try SkyPups suggestion next time I fill up. That will be next year sometime at this point. I've only refueled once and that was at Citgo. I didn't even notice the Cetane rating to tell you the truth. Runs good though. Ever since getting the 2000 Jetta/GLS/TDI I've been taking the...
I have a new 2000/Jetta/TDI/5SP I am really surpised at how much I enjoy the cruise control. I never could imagine one on a 5 speed. My wife drives automatic Nissans (sorry) and on those cruise controls it's always shifting at odd feeling times but with the TDI it's smooth sailing. Really cool...
