    Diesel Shortage?

Burlington out I hit Kennedy Rd yesterday with the needle on the last white mark and he told me they had been out for 10 days. I also found out that the TDI will jump back up to 1/4 on the gauge to remind that you are running low, about 3 minutes back to empty again on the gauge. I went back to...

Shudder on Accel - Same but Different

I'm still leaning towards a fuelling problem. I ran regular Esso for the first ~10KKm until I discovered Sunoco Gold, then nothing but. You guys? I'm not sure if it might be pump related, but the recurring frequency still leaves me thinking injector. I guess I'll have my mechanic look at it.

Shudder on Accel - Same but Different

I honestly did search the forum. I found a number of hits with similarities and differences. I have been trying to figure this one out for a couple of months. 2001 TDI A4 ALH 5spd Upsolute Chip Epsi MAF = 30KKm old Engine = 170KKm Wheels recently balanced Checked MAF reading today, under...

    Grind/Clatter on startup

Another miracle HowTo from Wingnut, thanks very much! Is there any harm to leaving it as is? My mechanic suggested that the grind is just noise and shouldn't damage teeth or starter... Your thoughts??

    Front struts/rear shocks

I went down this road in the summer. Plan to buy new bolts and nuts all around. If you're doing the job yourself, there is a special clamp spreader you can buy online for the fronts. Spring compressor is a good idea, if you can borrow one. You should get new strut bearings for the front. Danix...

    Grind/Clatter on startup

Right after it catches, cold or warm, I hear a sound that could be described as a grind or several clatterings in rapid succession. I've heard starter ring gear grind on the flywheel before, but it was much higher pitched, also a different car. Clutch is fully depressed during this event, only...

Suggested brake system with fade resistance

Well it's only been a week with Pagid pads all around. The initial bite is softer than the mintex, and stopping power is more like stock. So I guess the Mintex is the better performing pad.

    VW Recall on PD's

VW Recall on PD\'s That's the 2nd recall that I had to pay for right around the time of the MI 'Fest. I could probably dig up the bills and go through VW.ca to get a refund, but instead i'll just steam when the dealer replaces my working kit to bone the manufacturer out of more cash. BTW recall...

    What Mods Do You Regret?

Biggest regret #1: Pipercross Viper CAI I thought it would be functional, but I learned that more cabin noise, coupled to slightly less smoke, coupled to maybe a bit more performance, coupled to a MAF that lasted 4000km for $280 US is a bad investment. Yes it did look cool. IIRC I traded it for...

    Engine making a wierd noise

Umm.. I had TB, Tens + 1 pulley replaced 40km ago. When the car is warm and at idle I can hear a repeating sound coming from the TB cover. Getting it into the shop on Monday, mechanic says it's probably a bad roller. Hopefully not full of metal shavings and molten

    Sylvania Silverstars

Search for Daniel Stern Lighting on the web, he has a review on bulbs. I got the top Sylvania he recommended at Crappy Tire, not sure if it's the same one you're talking about.

Feedback on Autotech 28mm OD Rear Sway Bar

I know the installation instructions said silicone spray for the elbows, but I can't recall if it specified a grease. I used white silicone grease, it's just to get the end links on to the bar anyway.

Feedback on Autotech 28mm OD Rear Sway Bar

Yes, but the sway bar effect also increases proportionally with lateral weight transfer. The harder you turn, the more the car turns. In low traction situations the handling will not be nearly as neutral as it is in the dry at a greater speed.

Feedback on Autotech 28mm OD Rear Sway Bar

Some detailed experience information for those that would consider adding this to your car, now or in the future. I have a 2001 Jetta (A4 Chas). I added the sway bar, and also replaced my aging shocks/struts with Bilstein TC. The sway bar is a lot of fun under specific conditions. Its job is...

Suggested brake system with fade resistance

I upgraded my front brakes to Zimmerman drilled rotors and Mintex red box. The stopping power is awesome but after two or three hard shots the brakes fade right out. It's time to change the pads now so I'm putting feelers out for what others have tried. Ideas? Thanks.

$400 door switch? Required for dome light?

Thanks WN. BTW I'll be doing your sway bar end clamp procedure soon

$400 door switch? Required for dome light?

The dealer said I needed a "micro switch", which is apparently integrated into the door lock, for a grand total of $380 installed. My issue is that the passenger door doesn't operate the dome light, or get recognized in any way by the car as being open. You can arm the system with the door...
