    Rear floorboards soaked

No rust? In a Mk3? I don't buy it. ...Well, I would buy it if it existed and was for sale. :) No rust around the fuel filler? Pull up the back seat, see if there is anything wet there or signs of water streaks. Tim.

Hey All 98 TDI awesome car but..

I had the same dilemma. I chose to fix the car I had. Estimates were that it would cost about the same as finding a body in the south and doing a swap without the hassle of finding and bringing home a new body. Turned out to be in way worse shape than it looked. I fixed the structural stuff...

    No Reverse, broken shift linkage

That's the part. Common failure point. Someone makes a metal replacement if you feel it's worth it. http://gruvenparts.com/website/cart/cart.php?target=product&product_id=267&category_id=60 Tim.

1998 Jetta Driver side Cv Boot Repair?

It's not too hard to do. You need a special bit for the 6 bolts to get the axle out and snap ring pliers that expand the ring (if I remember correctly, double check). For me, the inner CV slipped right off, new boot, regrease, put it back in and all done. Tim.

Missing at highway speed, low RPM's

What happens if you take your foot completely off the the accelerator and just coast? I think I saw in another recent thread that it has to do with the injection timing. I have it, too, but haven't bothered looking into it yet. Tim.

O'Reilly nub can't find where to connect to run codes on check engine light

It's one of the most easily accessed ports that nobody can find. Someone had to point it out to me, and I've had to point it out to every non-TDI mechanic (usually for inspections) since. Tim.

    coolant line access

I ended up doing it without removing anything. Get the clamp tool and you just shove a hand in there and mostly work blind. Tim.

EGR Oil "weep" and CCV questions

Why would the catch can be air tight? My question is, if oil out the weep hole is a result of a broken diaphragm, pressure is passing through the diaphragm so why not just seal the weep hole? Tim.

    diy font end rebuild... ?'s

Rubber bushing are bonded to the metal sleeves. As the suspension moves the rubber twists to allow the movement. If you tighten the bushing at full droop, when you set the car on the ground you've just twisted the rubber. Because the rubber now had less twist left, it will cause resistance to...

    removing belly pan

If it's the same as the US pans, you have to jack the car up to get enough room. Undo the bolts at the back, and let it drop down so you can unhook the front of the pan. Tim.

    Restoration East Coast

Also might be cheaper to find a clean gasser body in better climates and swap the diesel stuff in. I chose to repair my Jetta because by the time I got a car from outside the rust belt, brought it back, and did the swap, I'd be at about the same money for body work. However, I am not concerned...
